Jul 23, 2006 Smooth, sweet, a bit weak and watery. Vanilla and other pleasant flavors discernable, but taste leaves you fast. I think you need real barrels to get real wood taste. Had this over a year ago on draught in DC and remembered it being better. Bottled version obviously not much of an experience. Would like to try brewpub varsion.

Jul 19, 2006 (05.27.06) 12 oz brown bottle from Old Dominion brewery, Ashburn, Virginia. Bottled 01.19.06. 5.2% ABV. Roasted caramel aroma. Poured opaque black with small off-white head. No discernable carbonation. Medium bodied stout that starts dry with light roasted malt and vanilla notes. Finished dry with light roasted bitterness. No discernable wood flavor. Though thin, watery, and mono-dimensional, this is a decent drinkable stout that goes well with mild tasting food. The brewpub version was better.

Jul 13, 2006 This is a great stout, especially if you can catch in on draught. The pour is very dark, with a nice brown head. The aroma is great, vanilla and chocolate together--very light and pleasing. The taste is great. Very smooth mouthfeel, very complex and mature. This is a great sipper. The taste is chocolately to be sure, with the vanilla hints coming through from the aroma. The finish is clean, with a great malty aftertaste. One of the better stouts out there."

Jul 10, 2006 Dark black with nice tan head. Strong aroma of vanilla and oak with a hint of cherry. The vanilla flavor is a bit overpowering at first but I get a bit of the oak in the aftertaste. The finish is a bit watery. An interesting and enjoyable stout but could be creamier and better balanced.

Jul 10, 2006 Good stout. Pours black. Some light head. Smells of roasted nuts and some sort of creamy smell. Tastes caramel with a slightly tart aftertaste.

Jul 3, 2006 Dark, fizzy pour. Smell of roasted coffee, vanilla and chocolate. I cant taste it. Its to water down. I can taste the bitter at the end. As it gets a little warmer, you can taste malt and just a hint of wood.

Jun 29, 2006 Nitro pour at the Brew Kettle. Poured a reverse-cascading deep brown with a 1.5" thick, creamy beige head. All pleasant components in the nose... but unfortunately muted from the nitro... vanilla-kissed dark and milk chocolates provided the bulk of the aroma. Flavor was very nice... sporting a milk chocolate and vanilla base... not complex, but damn good! Remarkably creamy on the palate with rich and roasty chocolates and vanilla... long chocolatey finish. I could drink this all day!

Jun 22, 2006 Bottle sampled with Beerded_one. Pours dark with a tan head. Aroma of vanilla, roast, and oak. Flavor is smooth, roast, vanilla, oak, with a slight bitter finish. Good body, excellent brew.
