Commercial Description:
Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is rich and smooth, a draught brew so popular at our Brewup that we found a way to bottle it for a wider audience. We combine seven different malts and two hops to create a delicious stout, that we dry-hop with fresh vanilla beans and toasted oak to finish our little treasure. The result is a stout that has the bourbon barrel flavor we all enjoy, and hope you will to.

Note: made with oak chips and vanilla beans, not aged in barrels. Available bottled and draft outside of the brewpub.

Bottled. A solid stout. Beer was a nearly opaque brown-black color with a small, creamy/frothy, light brown, mostly lasting head. The aroma was solid: malty with moderate notes of roasted grain, chocolate and coffee; lightly hoppy with notes of herbs, resin and pine; yeasty with moderate notes of basement and cobweb; moderate notes of oak, vanilla and burbon. Found myself wishing for a bit more malty sweetness to balance the somewhat sharpish burbon note, though. The flavor was lightly-to-moderately sweet, moderately acidic/tangy, moderately bitter with a long, light-to-moderately acidic and bitter finish. The body was medium, the texture was watery-to-velvety and teh carbonation was lively-to-soft.

Bottle from ilinismitty. Pours black with a thick tan head. Powdery raw biscuit dough aroma. Wow, the flavor is very enjoyable, ginger cookie with shortbread and chocolate work well together. Vanilla is evident in the finish. This is wonderful, subtle flavors everywhere. Chocolate is like a good chocolate cookie, and the vanilla note just makes me think of icing. I know I’ve had some kind of dessert that tastes like this but I am blanking. I’d hate to give the impression that this is one-sided sweet. It is not. But the hops do what they are supposed to and stay the hell out of the way. The vanilla comes out a bit more as I get further through the glass. Now I need to get to Virginia to try this on tap. Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a slight maghogeny tint. Big tan head that diminished abruptly. Great mocha/milk chocolate aroma with good vanilla scents. Medium bodied, smokey vanilla flavor. Smooth chocolate roasted finish. Very pleased with this beer.

2006 bottle. Pours an opaque black with a medium white head. Aroma of coffee, vanilla, cream, sugar, and oak. Flavor is strong vanilla and oak - fairly sweet stout. Mouthfeel seems to be a bit of carbonation - easy to drink. My favorite daily stout.

Appearance 12 oz bottle thick black little bubbs and rocky tan head. Aroma One can definetly smell the oatmeal. Grainy, malt and toffee combine to give it a coffeesque smell. Flavor Smooth. Sweet, smooth taste turns to a roasted bitter dry finish. Definetly tastes like roasted oats. Palate: Smooth well balanced between sweet and bitter. Slightly watery. In a different beer this might be a bad thing. The wateryness I think tones down this stout possibly adding to the balance and smoothness of the drink. Here this is a good thing. Overall: This is a great stout. It’s very drinkable. It’s a very dark beer, but it’s balance is fantastic and many of these could be casually put down.
