Pours very dark mahogany brown with a tannish head. Mild aroma has some vanilla, burnt molasses, oak, sweet malt. Only small traces of lacing. Mouthfeel actually pretty thin. Flavor has oak overtones overlaying roasted grain; also a bit of coffee and very slight vanilla. Pretty good, but aside from the oak, which does leave an aftertaste, didn’t think this had alot exceptional to offer. clueo (112), Pennsylvania, USA

Dark black with a dark tan head. Nice lacing, and a wonderful aroma of a typical stout, but with slight vanilla and bourbon notes in it. Taste was much of the same. Im not sure I have ever enjoyed a beer as much as this one!!! wasafiri (1), USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 4, 2006 Bottle. Excellent taste. You can definitely notice usage of bourbon barrels. Not a "common" or "ordinary" taste by any means. roder60 (1033), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Feb 26, 2006 Pours a dark brown with a small amount of bubbly tan head. Aroma is definitely full of vanilla and i catch small molases notes but overall the vanilla dominates. Flavor is sweet, once again very vanillay, then a dryer bitter finish. Overall, i cant get past the vanilla flavor and i dont like vanilla, so i was not a huge fan of this beer. ElJefe (553), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 26, 2006 Pours black with a somewhat thin tan head. Aroma of vanilla, oak, and bourbon. Flavor is roasty and sweet, with a dry nutty finish. A bit of sour acidity creeps in and balances nicely with the other flavors. A nice chocolate and spruce bitterness mix in the finish as well. Complex flavor, but not over the top in any respect. Just a nice, well crafted stout. nolankowal (855), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2006 Dark black-brown pour with a cocoa brown head. Aroma of chocolate, some coffee and a bit of spiced rumand a bit of smoke. The smokey flavor holds a fair amount of coffee and rum notes(though all the flavors feel a bit thin), with some bitter chocolate in there somewhere. It’s bitter and dry thoughout a sweetness found somewhere in the middle...a bit watery at times. Not a bad dry stout, warming yet not overbearing. OldRaspy (292), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA

Aroma was vanilla and chocolate with a hint of oak and bourbon. Flavor was more chocolate and vanilla. A very smooth drink that finished with a nice bourbon flavor.
