| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 8, 2005 Black color with no head. Aroma is mainly lactose. Slight sour malt in the taste. Little bitterness. In a blind taste test, I would never presume this to have come from a barrel or even having oak chips added to it. None of those flavors came through at all. Nose was a little stuffed, but I got chocolate and vanilla. Flavor was crazy; smoked wood chips, vanilla, bitter chocolate, and bit of coffee. Finished with that smoky oak flavor. Very smooth. Man, I wish we could get this in NC. Yum. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2005 12 oz. bottle. dark brown in color with a tan head, settles down to some very nice lace. a nice stout with roasted caramel malt flavors balanced by the oak and vanilla. rather thin on the palate, but quite an enjoyable brew. Thanks to OhioDad for the bottle. walter (359), Staunton, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 3, 2005 Draft, Baja Bean, Staunton VA. Black color with little offwhite head. Nose of sweet chocolate malt, faint roasted malt, dry toast, vanilla, and oak. Creamy mouthfeel and smooth carbonation though a tad on the thin side. Well-balanced flavors of all of the above, with the "bourbon oak" flavor just right-- not too sweet but not too astringent. An easy drinking mild stout, very nice. NOTE: I find the bottled version inconsistent. I’ve had bottles that are a fine approximation of the draft, but others that end up tasting more like a roasted barley oak tea due to over-oaking-- a really unfortunate tasting experience. adrian910ss (1435), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 30, 2005 Pours a dark black color with a small laced beige head. Aroma is malty with heavy hints of vanilla and freshly cut wet oak. Taste is also malty with flavors of oak and vanilla present. Reminds me very much of Vanilla Coke in both flavor and scent minus the sweetness. A very pleasant stout. DCJack (146), Alabama, USA

very soft and gentle, but not weak, more like a sturdy leather well-worn upholstered chair.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 28, 2005 Bottle. Pours black with faint amber edges and a tan head. The aroma is very roasty with hints of chocolate, oak, and whiskey. The flavor is also very roasty, with big coffee and chocolate. A tannic oak flavor floats around, too, and the vanilla beans are detectable in the finish along with some crisp hops. This is some tasty stuff. NachlamSie (1647), Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 24, 2005 bottle. Pours a fine deep, deep red with a nice tan head. The aroma is sweet, full of vanilla and burboun. The flavor is quite savory, more burboun and a nice woody finish. Nice stout, fairly unique for this style.
