Opaque black with small dark tan head. Large vanilla and butter aroma, tinges of sweet chocolate. Cocoa butter, vanilla, and tinges of wooden phenol in the flavor. Very little roastiness. Residual malty sweetness and vanilla in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium and rather smooth.

Wow. This is good. Very smooth and just a hint of oak/vanilla flavor. Could use a bit more roastiness and carbonation.

Bottle: Chocolaty-toasty malt aroma with a pinch of vanilla sweetness and some bitter coffee. A lot of sweet chocolate flavors throughout, reminding me of a Yoohoo. Nip of sourness. Subtle whiskey. Deep and woody. Chalky bitterness. Pretty good beer, but not overly complex.

Dark brown color, with a small tan head. Rich malt aroma, with hints of fudge, coffee and chocolate (brownies), light aromatic hops, hints of vanilla and a light hint of oak. Pretty subtle and gentle overall, with a roasted coffee, vanilla bean, chocolate, hops and a light hint of toasted oak. Not as good as I was expecting.

On draft. Pours jet black with a tan head that dissipated very quick. Nose is of coffee. Flavor was nice and roasty and dominated by coffee with a hint of chocolate. This beer was thin and watery, I believe mainly because it wasn’t served on nitrogen. Is that even legal? What a waste...I’m anxious to try this when served properly.

This bottled brew poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind an opaque black body with a slight red hue around the edges and no visible carbonation. It had a malty dark brown roasted malty aroma and a mouth feel that was initially tingly then mellowed in its finish with a semi thick palate. The flavor contained notes of chocolate dark malt and roasted coffee. Rather yummy.

Thanks to Slob for this one. Glop glop glop. Poured out viscous and dark. Midnight in the wilderness poured into a glass. Strong aroma of vanilla and milder notes of roasted coffee beans. Flavor is less satisfying then I expected from the smell. Flavor palate is mild vanilla, I guess that odd flavor is the oak chips and almost no hint of any roasted barley. The low profile flavor came as a shock as the aroma hints at a big flavor. Palate is also somewhat subdued.

Picked this up in Williamsburg, never had it before. Aroma consisted mostly of coffee with a toasty note. A light hint of vanilla in the nose. Appearance was rich and dark, as a stout should be, with a minimal tan head which quickly dissipated. Flavor was a nice balance of chocolate, with some oak and vanilla noticeable. The vanilla continues into the finish and lingers with a slight hint of astringency from the roasted malts. Hops are present, but not overassertive. Mouthfeel is modest, considering this is a stout. Leaves a bit of a roast vanilla coating on the mouth and tounge. An enjoyable stout, definitely a pleasant surprise.
