Commercial Description:
Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is rich and smooth, a draught brew so popular at our Brewup that we found a way to bottle it for a wider audience. We combine seven different malts and two hops to create a delicious stout, that we dry-hop with fresh vanilla beans and toasted oak to finish our little treasure. The result is a stout that has the bourbon barrel flavor we all enjoy, and hope you will to.

Note: made with oak chips and vanilla beans, not aged in barrels. Available bottled and draft outside of the brewpub.

This brewery is only a few miles from where I lay my head. We must all stay true to our local brewery. Unfortunately for me it is hard... Anheuser Busch purchased this brewery and made several changes, one of those changes was to the Oak Barrel Stout. BUT.. This is still a damn good beer but NOT as good as it used to be on tap. It truly is a rich creamy dark stout, with slight hints of coffee, chocolate and vanilla.

12 oz. bottled on 09/15/09. Pours jet black, tan one-finger head that bubbles and dissipates quickly. Aroma of some coffee, almost hazlenut, and some subtle herb. Medium body with decent mouthfeel. Good amount of sweetness, then a light dry finish. Decent carb and very drinkable. Nothing amazingly complex, but a solidly brewed oak stout.

Extremely thin. Sweet, too sweet, but with a very dry aftertaste. Noticeable alcohol content. Aroma like a lit, unscented candle, with some suggestion of roast, especially lingering in the aftertaste. This is a weird beer and I can’t say I’m crazy about it, but I suppose it could be a lot worse. I like the candle-like aspect of the aroma but overall the aroma is too weak, and the beer is too thin. Unsatisfying.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a quick dissipating tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, oak and vanilla. The flavor is roasty bittersweet chocolate and vanilla. Medium to full body with mild carbonation and a soft velvety mouth feel. This is a very nice stout, the oak and vanilla really make this taste and smell great.

bottled 04/02/08 picked up on the cheap in frederick, md. shared with the crew end of august 2009. dark reddish-brownish pour with a hint of black with a cafe au lait colored head. malty sweet nose has notes of vanilla bean and its’ woody pod, a bit of smoke, cocoa, roasty grain and toasted caramelized nuts. the flavor is quite similar only the smoke is more pronounced, there is a touch of milky sourness on the dry finish and it has a big ol’ coffee-like aftertaste. the body is on the thin side of medium with a somewhat watery texture.... wait, no, it’s just a really quaffable ’regular’ old stout... seriously, i could drink a ton of these! 8/3/7/3/16/3.7

Not much of an aroma. Dark dark brew. Lovely flavour, delightfully smooth palate. Well balanced, smooth, chocolatey, very drinkable. Overall thumbs up.

This is a perfect stout every way you look at it. First off. The pour. It pours like a normal, every day stout untill you see the head. Or lack there of it. Unlike other stouts that tend to be over carbonated to give the novice beer lover the impression it’s a quality stout because it has a huge head. No no no. This beer has a modest one inch head. Thats all you need. Thats all you get! The aroma is that of chocolate, smoke, vanilla, and malt with a light sweetness at the end of the smell. The taste is truely amazing. No matter WHERE you are, once this stout hits your lips and tounge, you are instantly transported to a log cabin where you are curled up next to a fire place in the middle of nowwhere with 5 feet of snow on the ground outside. I tell no lies!!!! This beer has HUGE flavor. Chocolate and vanilla undertones with the firm malty stout as the main show. Not to mention the toasted oak somewhere in the middle. I am VERY pleased with this beer. If you can, buy it and try it. There will be NO let down. I would pay $9 for just one bottle of this quality beer. But I get a SIX PACK for just $9.25!!!!!! I cannot believe the price of this. This beer is made by true beer lovers. How and WHY they sell it so cheap is beyond me. This is a Cadillac beer at a Kia price.

Courtesy of markwise. It pours deep dark mahogany with firm mocha head. The aroma is roasty with a bit of chocolate then moving toward a touch of roasted malts and caramel. The taste has a quick hit of velvety smoothness to start binging in slick sweet malts that seem a tad watery along with roasty malts, chocolate, cream soda and a bit of earthiness. If there was some oak barrel going on I didn’t notice any.

Bottle. Poured a dark black color, with a small tan head that faded quickly. Aroma is roasted malts, light smoke, and some vanilla. Taste is the same lots of roasted malts, light smoke, maybe some coffee and some vanilla. Texture is a little thin but not watery. I like the low alcohol content with lots of flavor. Over not bad at all....
