Pours an opaque, amber-brown color with a foamy off-white head that diminishes to a thin layer but lasts throughout. Good lacing. Aroma is a strong malty sweetness, some caramel, and noticeably hoppy. Flavor starts off with a strong, sweet caramel maltiness followed by a grapefruity hop bitterness that carries long into the finish. Spicy. Slightly warm. Very full bodied.. cgarvieuk (4177), Edinburgh, Scotland

Taste is creamy, caramel malt and grapefruit hops. Nice, thick mouthfeel. Better than the regular Bastard. Excellent! kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 31, 2008 Pours a clear amber/brown with a minimal grey head. Aroma is lightly sweet with grapefruit, cherry, flowers and caramel. The flavor is floral hop, grapefruity hop, cherries, toffee, orange and light cinnamon. Medium body, very pleasant light creamy texture. Finishes very hoppy and dry with a warming alcohol burn. arondee (176), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 30, 2008 Pours a thick red/brown. The beer is completely opaque with a good amount of carbonation and a small white head and good lacing. This beer looks like a meal in a glass. The first thing you taste is a thick caramel malt with maybe a hint of orange peel and honey then hops, lots of hops! The finish is immediately bitter but quickly backs down leaving a deliciously bitter taste on the palate for 10-15 seconds and a sticky honey malt flavor on the roof of your mouth. Alcohol is hardly noticeable. Excellent beer to be enjoyed with friends on special occasions. 41cubs (137), , New Jersey, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Dec 28, 2008 2008 12 oz. Disappointing. Beautiful looking beer. If it tasted how it smelled it would be a wonder. Very one-note bitter hoppiness, not fruity or flowery or balanced with any full, roasty or sweet maltiness at all, just bitter, bitter, bitter hoppiness in the flavor. The only saving grace of this beer is that it seems to smooth out as it warms, thank the beer gods for that. Sorry Stone but you and the rest of the west coast may have to come to grips with your hops obsession (Ruination!!!!!! Great brewery but off key with this guy.
