After 6 years, the super-hoppy nature of this beast has taken a backseat to the brown sugar and dark fruit. That doesn’t mean that it has lost any of its quality. Pours a deep red, almost black, with a thin lasting head. The aroma is brown sugar, banana bread, and booze with a hint of hops. The flavor is very complex, including chocolate, maple syrup, dark fruit, etc. The hops serve to give it a nice dry finish, and complement the beginning. The alcohol is there, but not overpowering. This one was worth the wait. acl8000 (2), Woodstock, Georgia, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Oct 6, 2009 2007 Double Bastard

Rich aroma of hops, malt with some chocolate character too. Quite a complex beer, deep and rich flavours, with lots of malt fruitines and quite a bitter finish. There is alcoholic warmth but its not over powering. This is not a beer for the faint hearted or those that consider Crown Lager a "good"beer. Definately a beer for the beer geeks among us, thank god for Stone! jimmiec (46), Louisiana, USA
