| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2009 A beautiful cloudy dark cherry red. The head dies down quickly. The rose color seems to glow from within.
The smell is sweet-but-dark cherry and grainy barley. Just this side of a barley wine aroma. A very mild citrus/floral hop.
The taste is deep, roasted-yet-sweet malts. Cocoa and cherry cordials. Liqueur like a dark brandy. The hop is mild and flowery by comparison. Malts are deep, rich and bittersweet. Dark and rich. As it warms, bitter hops really push through.
A chewy, thick feel; lingers on the tongue. This baby is a sipper; might as well be a barleywine. A real thick choker. drjay44 (778), Salida, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 28, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Vintage 2008. 10.5% ABV. Pours a thick long lasting off white head with extensive lacing, over a very slightly cloudy reddish amber (SRM 17) body.....nose has brown sugar, toffee, citrus (grapefruit primarily), resin, alcohol.....taste initially toffee, caramel, honey, then balancing heavy lasting, hop bitterness swings in, with grapefruit tones......mouth feel is thick and chewy, with carbonation adding a lovely creamy texture. When I got the first bit of the nose it was reminscent of a Barley Wine, the taste is not that of a Barley. I would prefer a more complex hop profile, than what came through in this bottle. Taste is sweet, hoppy, & a strong alcohol presence with port like qualities. Can get you drunk & is not for the weak. GranvilleTim (482), Granville, Illinois, USA
