Smells really strong (sweetness and alcohol). Dark/golden brown colour (a bit like mock tudor). Very bitter tasting, with a funny palate. Its a grower. albert007 (409), Penobsquis, New Brunswick, Canada

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 23, 2002 Nice color, strong foam, sheets rather laces. Flavor is pretty weak as is the carbination. It’s alright for a steady drinking, but doesn’t have as strong a flavor that I would like. SETANTA (581), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA

As someone pointed out below, does have some intersting lager-ish characteristics, though, the bite and the clarity, and is best served somewhat cold. Nuffield (2724), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jul 16, 2002 When I first learned to like beers other than Miller Genuine Draft, this was one of the first I took a step up to (and it was one of the only better-quality beers ones I could get in rural Pennsylvania at the time). Now its very average. Soft head of caramel-ish foam, slightly thin composition. First taste on a clean tongue seemed like it had flavor, but then it was gone. Creamy texture, (not quite as much as Boddingtons). (on tap, University College bar, Oxford) Kåstå (1149), Mol, Belgium
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jul 16, 2002 Dark golden coloured with medium disappearing head. Sweet caramel aroma. There is some caramel in the flavour and a bitter finish.
