I enjoyed this beer, plenty of fruityness from the English yeast and a nice hop presence. I would have liked a bit more malt though. zach8270 (2110), Henrietta, New York, USA

Very light aroma of hops and some herbs and grass. The flavor is similar to a very light IPA with a slight hop hint at the beginning and mixed with some hops and malt near the end. Not much of an aftertaste. Not too bad. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

a classic bronze color, nice layer of creamy foam capping it...
aroma is malty most of all, herbal, nutty, not too much from hops...
taste is very smooth, clean, but fully flavorful. Medium-bodied, with hops kicking up their presence on the palate at first sip, then falling back a bit, and returning with each renewed engagement on the lips. I didn’t know what to think of this one, as it was my first try. I’ve been long disappointed with Bass lately, though it was the first beer I ever liked, not to mention the first ale I ever had. DD does the Burton Ale well, much better than the watery Bass we get over here.
I enjoyed this pint, though I wouldn’t normally choose it, with my preference for American-style IPAs and all. But for what it is, this is nice. Should replace Bass on so many taps throughout the land, if they only knew. screwball (796), Motala, Sweden

Decent bitter indeed. Decent to good, hope aroma and flavour. Probably too hoppy for the English market but not hoppy enough for Americans, thereby being very marketable as English beer.
But its not!! ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 10, 2005 Tap at Bryant Lake Bowl, MN. No aroma. Hazy amber in color with nice lace. Dry, bitter, nice. A little bit like Bass. Also has some similarities to Fullers ESB, but not as good. Pretty decent English brew. The bartender at Bryant Lake Bowl told me the brewer was Burton. Although Burton Bridge makes a ’Dublo Diamond’, it is retired. I also recognize the logo on this page as the one on the tap handle, so I am quite confident this is the right brew. It is possible Leeds Brewery bought the recipe from Burton Bridge. JohnBarleycorn (390), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 8/20 | May 2, 2005 Cask-flow can. Colour is a very eye-pleasing light-medium amber. Nose is fairly sweet and pretty simple – not much power to it. Nice, creamy mouthfeel doesn’t really lead anywhere. The taste is pretty flat, mostly sweet with slight hints of undefinable fruit, and a bitterness that swells towards the middle and then departs for the finish. Not all that tasty or refreshing, you can do much better than "Burton’s Finest". JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Apr 5, 2005 500 ml can. I don’t see a widget, but it pours as if there were one in there. Pale copper colour with a thick, persistent white head. Aroma of caramel malts and UK hops. Nice fruity malts and spicy hop aromas typical of UK bitters. Mouthfeel needs some carbonation, the beer just seems limp and lifeless (probably the nitro). Watery palate. Sweet, fruity malts, spicy and slightly woody hops with a hint of stale flavour. It isn’t really bad, it just needs more to be good.
