Silkily malty sipper with a faintly roasty, walnut-like bitterness. Chestnut pour with clinging off-white lace. Nose is nutty with hints of vegetable and burnt malt loaf. Some dark fruit, toffee and booze in there but mostly bitterly nutty malt. Not bad at all.

It’s a dark golden beer with a golden head. Both aroma and flavour are quite malty, and it has sweet notes of caramel, fruit and a citrussy finish. I like the Double Maxim better I think, this is a bit unbalanced in it’s sweetish maltyness. 1701

500ml bottle from Tesco. A chestnut colour with a thick, loose, cream head; aroma of raisins and fermenting grape; rich and smooth in the mouth, starting saccharin sweet, but developing a dry roast coffee finish.

Bottle: Clear, amber coloured, small, lacing off-white foam; sweet-malty, roast-malty nose, almost a bit vinous; moderate bitter-seet flavour, medium bodied; a bit port-vinous, a bit roast-malty finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste. O.K, not overwhelming.......
