Oakes (7032), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 21, 2007 Amber-accented gold, fairly bright. The aroma is mainly woody, with a slight citrus accent. Rich, drippy brew...grapefruity/woody with lots of malt chewiness. These malts seem mostly pale and munich - not getting much crystal. Resiny finish. Not half bad, this one. BückDich (4605), Boise, Idaho, USA Nov 19, 2007 Tap @ Brewpub: Hazy copper, nose of crisp cascades and light malt. The flavor has a doughy malt flavor, papery cliche albeit delicious cascade flavors. Nice body, tasty but doesn’t blow my mind. Why the pilsner malt? acrdz (4492), Boulder, Colorado, USA Nov 17, 2008 Draft at Henry’s 12th St Tavern. Glowing unfiltered soft creamy orange body with a 1/2 inch fine white head. Incredibly intense tropical fruit nose - crystalline sugared mango, pineapple and grapefruit - peppery and minty, amazingly fresh... intensely bitter but well-attenuated and thankfully very smooth. The people at Double Mountain really know IPA. I’ll say this - Hop Lava is the new Pliny the Elder. caesar (2654), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Sep 8, 2008 Tap @ Higgins, Portland.Hazy golden color, short head. Aroma is hoppy, some pine and grapefruit. Quite bitter taste, pretty smooth still. DA (2586), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Jul 22, 2007 Very nice IPA with a sweet mix of citrus and pine hops. Long grapefruit finish over a crisp bright hopped base and spicy dry finish. Pours clear gold with a soft white head. Very nice IPA, my first beer from this new Oregon brewer and i’m excited for more.
