BeerFanDan17 (415), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Jul 30, 2008 On draft at the Double Mountain brewery in Hood River around the corner from Full Sail. Very tasty and hoppy double/imperial style IPA. Crisp and spicy. These brewers have certainly done something right! acrdz (4492), Boulder, Colorado, USA Nov 17, 2008 Draft at Henry’s 12th St Tavern. Glowing unfiltered soft creamy orange body with a 1/2 inch fine white head. Incredibly intense tropical fruit nose - crystalline sugared mango, pineapple and grapefruit - peppery and minty, amazingly fresh... intensely bitter but well-attenuated and thankfully very smooth. The people at Double Mountain really know IPA. I’ll say this - Hop Lava is the new Pliny the Elder. glkaiser (1017), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 25, 2008 On tap at brewery. Dark golden w/ small head. Big citrus aroma and taste. This is right up my alley with the mix of citrus hops and lightly balanced biscuit malt. Bitterness is almost a bit much, but not quite over the top. Love it. DrBayern (1001), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Jul 29, 2007 Draft at the Double Mountain taproom in Hood River, OR on 7/20/07. Clear amber under an off white head with nice lace. Big aroma of fresh pine and citrus hops over a backdrop of toffee. Smooth medium body and a resiny dryness. Caramel maltiness opposite a citrus rind bitterness for some nice balance. The long dry finish is refreshing. The brewery calls it a regular IPA, but when I drank it, it seemed like an Imperial to me, and I see that is how it is classified here. Any way you look at it, this is a really good beer. AlabastorJones (634), San Francisco, California, USA Aug 27, 2008 Had this on tap at Cornucopia while I was still living in Eugene... Pours beautiful hue of caramel orange amber, delicious hop bounty of a nose, this beer bares citrus fruit in hop format, incredible and outrageously refreshing, one of the best beers that I had this summer hands down, can’t recommend this ale enough!
