buzzoven (170), Japan Aug 15, 2008 On tap @ Henry’s Tavern, Portland. Deep cloudy amber orange haze with a creamy frothy crown of malted goodness. Heavy citrus nose. Very smooth hoppy taste followed by a rounded balanced wave of bitterness and slight burnt caramel taste with some dough-like tones. Shows a great subtle complexity and style. Made me happy.
acrdz (4492), Boulder, Colorado, USA Nov 17, 2008 Draft at Henry’s 12th St Tavern. Glowing unfiltered soft creamy orange body with a 1/2 inch fine white head. Incredibly intense tropical fruit nose - crystalline sugared mango, pineapple and grapefruit - peppery and minty, amazingly fresh... intensely bitter but well-attenuated and thankfully very smooth. The people at Double Mountain really know IPA. I’ll say this - Hop Lava is the new Pliny the Elder. glkaiser (1017), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 25, 2008 On tap at brewery. Dark golden w/ small head. Big citrus aroma and taste. This is right up my alley with the mix of citrus hops and lightly balanced biscuit malt. Bitterness is almost a bit much, but not quite over the top. Love it. caesar (2654), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Sep 8, 2008 Tap @ Higgins, Portland.Hazy golden color, short head. Aroma is hoppy, some pine and grapefruit. Quite bitter taste, pretty smooth still. AlabastorJones (634), San Francisco, California, USA Aug 27, 2008 Had this on tap at Cornucopia while I was still living in Eugene... Pours beautiful hue of caramel orange amber, delicious hop bounty of a nose, this beer bares citrus fruit in hop format, incredible and outrageously refreshing, one of the best beers that I had this summer hands down, can’t recommend this ale enough!
