Commercial Description:
The “IRA”, as it’s known around here, marries a ruby red color and rich body with the hop flavors of an IPA. Our unique ale yeast strain adds a delicious layer of complexity. One of the first beers we made, and an enduring favorite. Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner malt, imported crystal malt, Simcoe and Brewers’ Gold hops. 6.8% ABV, 55 BU

Hazy amber colour. Slightly spicy caramel and brown sugar nose with a hint of hop herbaceousness. Very quaffable - heck, slightly watery - with a balanced Simcoe-toast-caramel character. Somehow I wish for more in this brew but that’s not to say I don’t like what’s there.

Draft @ Double Mountain in Hood River. Cloudy rust colored body. Creamy sour and prickly red grapefruit, wood and nuts in the nose and front of the tongue, along with a touch of faintly sweet caramel. Hearty and full and rich. Tangy/spicy/oily/resinous. Wow. Wonderfully explosive resinous hops, amazingly fresh tasting. A masterful beer.

Tap @ Brewery: Caramel color, light head and lacing. Nose of dusty simcoe and pine, a more resinously light bitter body and a creamy chewy tail than I expected. Lots of dry caramel flavor, good and rustic.

On tap this pours a darker orange, lighter then I had expected. Citrus hop nose, floral and a touch more malty then your typical ipa. Warmer caramel flavors up front, struck a nice balance between the melted caramel flavors and the citrus hops.

Copper red pour with a decent head and nice lacing. Aromas of floral and peppery hops followed with toffee and a little pale malt sweetness. Nice bitterness PNW hops is followed by a light toffee sweetness. Hops linger for a long time leaving a dry mouth feel. The finish is floral and grapefruit rinds. Good.
