Commercial Description:
The “IRA”, as it’s known around here, marries a ruby red color and rich body with the hop flavors of an IPA. Our unique ale yeast strain adds a delicious layer of complexity. One of the first beers we made, and an enduring favorite. Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner malt, imported crystal malt, Simcoe and Brewers’ Gold hops. 6.8% ABV, 55 BU

A reddish IPA, lots of toasted barley. Malts are weak but help round out the hop. Almost dry hop floral.

india red? slippery categories-- cant be "strong" coz of the alcohol. Full-on aroma, floral, resiny, caramel, distant citrus. clear medium brown with quick, lacy head (on draft at mickey finns). clean in the mouth (surprisingly not oily as the resin of the hops would imply) with light carbonation. flavors of pine, caramel, lemon-sugar, old plum. i partiuclarly like the blanace of malt sweet, hop bitter and hop resin.

Draft: This beer pours a hazy deep red/orange with a very thin white head. Aroma is of malt and some hops and a tiny bit of fruit. Flavor is richly malty and has a decent bitterness. Not quite IPA bitterness though. Subtle fruit esters. A strong hoppy grapefruit finish. The citrusy hops dance on your tongue as it goes down. Pretty excellent first beer.

tap at Henry’s in Portland, ruby/amber pour thin tan head, sweet aroma of malt with noticeable hop aroma, sticky malt/hop flavor with residual sweetness on palate, definitely "bigger" then any other red i’ve had!

On tap @ Moon & Sixpence. Deep red with a medium white bubbly head. Great aroma of citrus hops and toasted malts. The flavor is tangy malt and citrus hops. I can drink a lot of this beer, it’s very pleasant on the palate and nicely balanced.

My staple at Cassidy’s in Portland after a long night of line cooking. Pours a deep red color with a large puffy white head. Aroma of hops, green apple, and grapefruit. the roasted malts subdue the hop profile slightly which is nice because hops can be loud sometimes. overall a well balanced and great beer.

Nice full aroma beer. Light golden in color. Got it on tap at Henry’s. Good summer type IPA. Fruity and refreshing. Not a heavy beer.

I tried this at Oregon Brewer’s Festival 2009. At bit too hoppy for me, but good tasting hops, and very good quality otherwise. Tasted very similar to 2 others I tried: Boulder Beer Flashback Anniversary Ale & Summit Horizon Red Ale.
