Commercial Description:
This hoppy IPA is high in alcohol and except for the American hop aroma, is very British in style. This style was originally developed to survive the voyage from England around the Cape of Good Hope and back North to India to keep the British troops happy.

On tap at the brewpub. Crystal clear, light golden colored body with a thick head of sudsy white. Exceptionally clean, citrusy Cascade hop aroma that abounds with fresh oranges and grapefruit, with hints of papaya. Slightly grassy, but very clean and fresh. A subtle caramel malt sweetness compliments the hop aroma nicely. Medium light bodied, crisply carbonated mouthfeel with a soft texture and a dry, clean finish. Pleasantly dry, but a smooth graham cracker malt flavor starts out the palate. Hop flavors suggest mostly grapefruit and orange citrus, but lack any bold, pithy, bitterness. Wonderfully clean and fresh, but balanced to a fault. I’d love to drink several pints of this, which is definitely doable considering the body and dryness, but the hop punch is just a little bit too pedestrian. Exceptional mouthfeel and texture, but the bitterness falls a bit flat on the palate. If this was classified as an APA, it would be the ultimate session beer.

Light amber with minimal head. Slight pine aroma and some soap. Bitter up front without a lot of malt support. Thinner palate with a finish that is sticks with the bitterness.

On draft at the pub. Slight citrus aroma and a little carbonation on the palate. Good bitter hops and smooth finish. Decent IPA.

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear orange color. Head was thin and off white. Aroma was of citrusy hops, malty caramel, and light graham cracker. Moderate hop bitterness on the tongue with a nice mix of grapefruity hop and malty caramel flavors.

On tap at the brewpub in Napa. Very good brewpub IPA. Mediuim orange pour, fresh sprucey aroma. Flavor has the requisite citrusy hop flavor with a surprise vanilla and butterscotch finish. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Probably the best of the bunch at Downtown Joe’s.
