Commercial Description:
Released as both Drafting Room 14th Anniversary Ale and Troegs Scratch 12

This bold IPA is brewed with Pils and Vienna malt and Amarillo, Warrior, and Mount Hood hops. It has fresh citrus and pine aromas followed by bold dry hop flavors, a faint nutty malt backing and a tantalizing hop finish that lingers on the tongue.

12 fl oz bottle as Troegs Scratch 12. Pours hazy yellow with a diminished white head. Spiced and wheaty aroma, light citric note. Light yeasty and solid hoppy flavoured. Mild spiced and light citric to apple fruity. Ends yeasty and hoppy finish.

12 oz bottle

Thanks to CharlesDarwin for sending this as a bonus in a trade a few months ago. I got around to cracking it open when looking for a non stout in the cellar. Since this seemed to be one to drink fresh it was the first one I snagged. I was not disappointed. Troeg’s may not be on par with Three Floyds, Lost Abbey, or some of the other big stars but they aren’t far behind either. Much like Great Lakes their beers are often more hit than miss.

Aroma / Appearance - A white half funger head surged to the top of the pint glass before collapsing in on itself. A cloudy caramel golden body was the result. Hoppy in a way that grabs your attention it hinted at fresh honeycomb, recently cut grass, and citrus. This was an IPA that was spot on.

Flavor / Palate - Warm hops, caramel, and Nutella formed a perfect trio to greet the senses. The bitterness calmly makes it way towards the throat leaving behind a trail of hops. Balanced and not over the top this is a great lawn mower beer. If they have a regular release that is anything like this I’ll have to get my hands on it next summer.

Bottled. A hazy orange beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with fruity notes of peaches and oranges. The flavor is sweet malty with fruity notes primarily of orange, leading to a dry bitter finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Courtesy of CharlesDarwin. Pours up deep hazy gold with tall off white head. This bottle conditioned beer seems the faintest acidic in the nose with sweet malts and grapefruit hops coming together making the citrus grapefruit seemingly sweet. The taste feels thick with rich sweet maltiness coupled with assertive grapefruit hop bitterness creating a very nice yet bold balance of malt and hop notes. The hop bitterness peaks about midway as the solid sweet maltiness fades for a moment or two. Into the finish the malts become recharged and meet the hops on near equal terms. Very solid hoppy brew that ushers in a pulse of grapefruit aromatics with every sip.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Storm. Comes as ’’Tröegs Scratch 12’’. Hazy yellow beer with loads of floating impurities and a dense, off-white head leaving laces. Fat hop aroma. Medium body with fairly fruity notes, citrus and a distinct bitter finish. 201008
