PapaSkeetSkeet (65), , Massachusetts, USA Nov 2, 2009 pours black with the slightest warm brown at the edges, like dark brown oil paint right out of the tube. Smells of a molasses, hop infusions, bit of booze. Thin tan head. Some apple sweetness. Taste has a strong sweetness and apple juice to it, along with honey, molasses. Good, but I don’t think I could drink much. danielcurtis81 (879), San Diego, California, USA Oct 20, 2009 Served from a 12 oz bottle while in George Town, Cayman Island on the honeymoon cruise. The appearance is deep mahogany (thank goodness for some darkness!!!) and a creamy brown head. The aromas and flavors are sweet chocolate and cereal. Mouth has some mild carbonation. ALCOHOLNIZM (59), WARWICK, USA Sep 16, 2009 THIS IS A BLACK BEER WITH NO HEAD THAT LOOKS LIKE FLAT SODA. THE TASTE HOWEVER ISNT FLAT AT ALL IT ACTUALLY HAS A TON OF CARBONATED SWEET FLAVORS ALMOST TOO SWEET, SORT OF LIKE SWEET SLIGHTLY BURNT BLACK COFFEE LIKE SODA WITH A TAD OF PRUNE JUICE, SOUNDS NASTY BUT IT WORKS WELL, GOOD BEER. NOT GREAT. abemorsten (65), Norway Sep 13, 2009 Pours black with a fizzy, light brown and short lived head. Smells of port and molasses. Also some alcohol and dough in there. The taste is very sweet all the way through with a syrupy texture. Medium bodied with a fizzy carbonation and an alcoholic finish. Ricola herbal bonbons. If I had tasted this in a blind tes I would have guessed it to be a one of the belgian doubles that Cardinal used to have on tap. World-Beer-Awards just rated this one as Highly recommended in the category of World’s Best Export Stout. I do not agree it’s THAT big a deal. RichardW (241), Carlisle, Cumbria, England Sep 9, 2009 Bottle, Rehills, Newcastle. Man that’s rich!! Extreme chocolate flavour, reminds me of a very pleasant barley wine, but without the overpowering alcohol kick. A fine array of aromas to delight the senses; cherry, cough syrup, a hint of aniseed, caramel, more chocolate.... Gorgeous deep fruity flavour, a smoothness that just glides over the tongue and leaves a lovely warm glow. Epic........ PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Sep 4, 2009 Bottle. The colour is dark, almost-black with a thick creamy tan head. The aroma has molasses, corn syrup, bold raisin, and a bit of caramel and brown bread. Mouthfeel is medium in body and slightly syrupy. I taste plenty more of the molasses and raisin with some caramel, prune and granny smith apple. Finish is medium in length and slightly sweet with coffee and fruit. Bejaaamin (110), London, Ontario, Canada Aug 3, 2009 dark brown, thin head. nose of roast malt, cocoa, slight coffee, dried fruit, tasted similar to these but with a really spicy forefront. very interesting to have all these stout standards with such spiciness. pretty good. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Jul 28, 2009 Named after one of my favorite ratebeerians… OK, maybe not. Pours deep dark brown with tan head. The aroma is musty prunes, raisins, plums, a bit of caramel and burnt molasses. The taste is similar with a mix of caramel, prunes, ripe red apples and sweet slick malts. Very nice.
