Dark brown body under a very fast diminishing head. Sweet malty smell sustained by a candy sweet flavour of roasted black malts. Alcohol hints towards the ending. Foamy palate. Very sweet, in fact far too sweet (11.03.2008). BeerVirgin72 (820), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

Pours a dark brown with nice mocha colored head. Lasted quite awhile. Very sweet smell of malts and roasted nuts. Taste was completely unexpected. Extremely sweet, which I looooved! Sweet roasted malts and molases. Very lively little stout. Completely enjoyable and very drinkable. I could drink this often. RollinHard (763), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Mar 13, 2008 Thanks to Secret Santa for sending this. Pours black to reddish brown with a big long lasting khaki head. Aroma of caramel, cane sugar, chocolate, very mild coffee, vanilla, just a bit of coca cola. Flavor cheapens the experience, tasting like Dr. Pepper mixed with a real stout. There’s a slight roast flavor, but it’s too soda-like, even in the exceptionally high carbonation. Finishes cloying, even the beer isn’t terribly sweet, with more soda-flavor and a not much bitterness. Guess that hop extract didn’t do the trick? It’s the Coke Blak of beers. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 12, 2008 a moderately respectable brew that has moderate sugary tastes and a metallic tang enhanced by a nicely strongish alcohol quotient. the metal is from the hop character which is not of a particularly noticeable profile. it does hint at some dark and stewed fruits and a note or two of mainly a liquid smoke splash or 2. body and palate are acceptable (again moderate), refreshing and somewhat substantial. not a mistake at all. this sweet number has a niche to fit in to and would be welcome under certain circumstances. It’s a decent beer. I drank it chilled and from the bottle. The palate was very smooth. The flavour was above average, not to strong. After taste was not great but suitable. Overall I would give it about 14/20. Small bottle, but big kick at 7.5%abv. Sweet molasses and coffee hints, but less so when chilled. Creamy head disappearing after short while. Most palettable and worth a second attempt or 3! Smooth and sweet. markgugs (86), Wood Ridge, New Jersey, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 20, 2008 9.6oz. bottle, poured into my Sam A. glass, thanks to DragonStout (RB) for the extra (consuomed: 2/18/08)
A: Beer pours like, and looks like cola, with dark brown edges, complete with the fizziness. A thick frothy, creamy beige head jumps out of the glass, then settles just as quickly to nothing more than a wisp.
S: Sweets from ample roasted malts dominate this brew. Lots of burnt brown sugar, molasses, and some toasted nutmeg aromas waft upwards for the duration, though there is a strange soapy scent that permeates it all. Odd.
T/M: Holy crap this is sweet. It’s obnoxiously sweet. Molasses, some light chocolate flavors, even some plum & raisin remind me of some young Belgian dark ales. Hardly any finish at all, this beer was just too cloying for me. Not bad, just too sweet. Creamy with nice carbonation at least.
D: Simply too sweet, with no bittering to balance this out. It’s cloying nature makes this a "1 and no more, thanks" beer.
