The aroma & flavor are vineous, chocolatey and earthy (peat). Good balance. Medium to full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Dry, grassy finish. Excellent Scottish ale. Clear amber with a brownish head. Aromas of roasted malt, sweet fruit, touches of smoke, and alcohol. Flavor consisted of hops, pineapple, grapes, some sweetness. Overall a weak tasting beer with nothing standing out, and kind of getting washed right out of the mouth. SuIIy (1448), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 5, 2004 Smoky, peppery nose and flavor. Maltiness comes out under the smoked flavor. Unique beer. Inveigler (371), Ferndale, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 20, 2004 Hand-pull at the brewery. Wonderful toffee notes and deep rich mahogany malt tones. Big body with some hop dressing ... maybe a little too much really for a scotch ale. Nice peppery yeastiness, a well done scotch ale made better from the cask. Small oatmeal colored head that dissipates rapidly. Smells faintly of medium dark fruit, some caramel/roasted malt and a bit of salt. Begins very mild, lightly sweet and quite watery. Has a salty-sweet body with a tad bit of fuggles hops on the finish. Light bodied, low carbonation. Somewhat flowery. Not a whole lot going on. Smooth.
