Commercial Description:
Bishop Bob's Holy Smoke This beer is a Bamberg-style Rauchbier. The town of Bamberg in Germany originated the style of smoked beers. These beers are made with a dose of smoked barley. Our recipe relies on a light bock recipe for its base and contains about 20% imported smoked barley. The noble German hops are used to balance the taste into a unique beer drinking experience.

Tap @ D’mead. Black beer with no head. Smoke flavor like suggested in the name. Watery texture. Dragonmead has better selections before trying this one.

Tap. This is my first smoked beer, I’ve been wanting to try one for a while. Like all Dragonmead brews, it’s on the mild side. It looks beautiful, dark brown in color, nice thick tan head. No outstanding aromas, really. The smoke flavor is there but not overpowering. A bit watery.

Draft at brewery. Dark brownish/red w/ light tan head. Nose is vacant. Taste is light chocolate, light smokiness and very watery. Last sip of glass contained alot more smoke.

On tap at brewery: Tranparent bronze/brown with a large tan creamy head fully sustaining. Aromas are earthy, light floral hops, metallic notes and smoke near the end of the beer. Flavor is roasated malts and water, barely any smoke at all. Finishes with a hint of smoke and touches of non-bitter floral hops.

Tap: Reddish brown with a small head and okay lacing. The aroma has notes of smoke, light meaty esters, earthy esters, caramel malts and noble hops. The taste starts with smooth malting upfront supported by light amounts of bitters and smoky overtones. The taste does sort of fade towards the end however. The feel is smooth and drinkable, a touch dry. An okay bier, not oevr-the-top, heck not much smoke really. Quaffable.

Draft @ brewery. Amber in color with a smallish head. Light aromas, in fact light everything. This is just too light to be a good rauch. Light ash and a little butterscotch.

Deep chestnut, thin white head. Very low key aromas of smoke, sweet citrus and malt. Again, light flavors of smoke, a bit tangy in the middle, with a light hop presence in the end. Light to medium bodied, prickly carbonation, drying light smoked finish. A beginner rauchbier that was aiiiight....

On tap at the brewery. Dark brown color with a firm tan head. Smoked malts aroma but it was very subdued. The smoke was evident in the taste, but again it was subtle. Along with the smoked malts, there was a hint of sweetness that came out in the end. This would be a good starter for someone who has not had any smoked beers.
