Commercial Description:
This Belgian beer is brewed in the style of the Trappist Monks. Belgian Candi Sugar, Pilsen, Aromatic and Caramunich malts are balance by E. Kent Goldings, Mt. Hood and Saaz hops to construct a "Big Beer". Traditional White Beer Yeast is used to make this beer have a large mouth-feel and lingering spice notes in the finish. O.G. 1.085, ABV 8.0%

Date: 4/28/2007
Event: DarkLord Day 2007
Location: Three Floyds Brewing Co. Parking Lot
Serving: Sampled from a growler.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Malty, fruity, and some vinegar (vineous might be a better way to describe it).
Appearance: Clear gold color.
Flavor: Sugary malts, fruity, some delicate spice.
Palate: Pretty light.
Overall: Somewhat typcial for a Belgian-style beer, but I would probably classify this one as a Belgian Golden Ale rather than an Abbey Dubbel...

Tap at Belgian Room, HDG, sampled at Strong Fest. Amber colored with a big frothy white head. Aroma of bready and cakey malts with banana, bubblegum, citrus, and clove. Nice fruity profile---orange, lemon, banana, pear, white grape--complementing the bready malt, candi sugar and yeastiness. Hop additions lend a nicely piquant bitterness on the finish. Very smooth mouthfeel. I mistook this for a tripel. From the small sample I tried, a great beer.

Easily my favorite sample at the brewpub. Pours cranberry red with no head. The nose is fruity and full of yeast - noting banana, plum and peppery alcohol. The body is full of apple, pear and yeast funk. The finish is long, fruity and dry. Really well done.

On tap at the brewery. Some yeast in aroma. Copper colour,Lots of lace, minimum head. Not as complex from this style as I would expect.Medium bodied Yeasty taste, not all that drinkable. These hops are not usually the ones I lik, nor the spices like clove.

On tap at brewer. Light copper color not much head. Not too much in the nose, a little fruity maybe. Flavour, as many have said, is quite heavy on malt character, and I detec a good bit of fruitiness in there too, with a little hops and a bit of alcohol on the finish, leaving a little tingle on the tongue. Fairly mild for a Belgian style like this, but far from bland, and I’d say rather enjoyable.

Appears a light amber/gold with off white head and tons of lacing. Smell is of raisins and prunes and toasty malts with some tropical fruit, caramel, and raw dough...Belgian bliss! Taste is of the same aromas. Mouthfeel is sweet, not cloying with yeasty fruit roughing up the brew for a true Belgian style. ...Side note: Had a week old growler of this after the draft at the brewery and it didn’t do the beer justice until I got to the bottom portion.

Sampled from growler provided by weeare138 (thanks Mike!). Poured a medium and slightly hazy amber color with an averaged to larger sized off white head. Aromas of yeast and fruity. Tastes of the same with dark fruits. Somewhat sugary sweet. Alcohol content well hidden (didn’t know that until I just noticed it was listed as 8%).
