Commercial Description:
This Belgian beer is brewed in the style of the Trappist Monks. Belgian Candi Sugar, Pilsen, Aromatic and Caramunich malts are balance by E. Kent Goldings, Mt. Hood and Saaz hops to construct a "Big Beer". Traditional White Beer Yeast is used to make this beer have a large mouth-feel and lingering spice notes in the finish. O.G. 1.085, ABV 8.0%

Sampled from growler provided by weeare138 (thanks Mike!). Poured a medium and slightly hazy amber color with an averaged to larger sized off white head. Aromas of yeast and fruity. Tastes of the same with dark fruits. Somewhat sugary sweet. Alcohol content well hidden (didn’t know that until I just noticed it was listed as 8%).

On tap at Ashley's Ann Arbor MI: Copper hue with no head or lace. Fruity (ripe pear?), sweet malt, fresh-cut wood, and vinous. Spicy sweet with a little hoppy balance. Medium to full-bodied, sticky and soft mouthfeel. and hint of astringent alcohol of the finish. An okay dubbel but lack punch and fullness to rate higher.

On tap at the brewery. Some yeast in aroma. Copper colour,Lots of lace, minimum head. Not as complex from this style as I would expect.Medium bodied Yeasty taste, not all that drinkable. These hops are not usually the ones I lik, nor the spices like clove.

Super fruity aroma. Yellow with some darker brownish red tinges. Reminds me of pear/apple juice. . .Way too much fruit sweetness. Hardly detect any hops, maybe a touch towards the finish. Still, has a good enough flavor and tastes real enough. Did not find the spice flavors in it that I was expecting. Only medium bodied at best (probably more towards light) and a quite watery. Could actually stand some more carbonation (i think thats the first time ive said that about a beer). The alcohol is amazingly masked however, and the beer finishes smooth. I think I should have let it warm longer. Will definitely have to try again and rerate.

Event: DarkLord Day 2007
Location: Three Floyds Brewing Co. Parking Lot
Serving: Sampled from a growler.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Malty, fruity, and some vinegar (vineous might be a better way to describe it).
Appearance: Clear gold color.
Flavor: Sugary malts, fruity, some delicate spice.
Palate: Pretty light.
Overall: Somewhat typcial for a Belgian-style beer, but I would probably classify this one as a Belgian Golden Ale rather than an Abbey Dubbel...

Tap. A light pale orange. Very smooth with a quick finish. I was kind of surprised this was a Belgian given the lack of a strong bite. A noticeable alcohol taste.
