| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 4, 2004 cask-conditioned: Mahogany hued black. Creamy mocha foam. Aroma boasts shoe polish and soft, well-rounded roastiness. Whispers of cocoa, burnt malt hulls, and smoke. Very soft, but chalky, body. Poorly conditioned. Cottony roast texture with a chalky cocoa flavor. Midway, a toasted wood firmness increases alongside a splash of bittersweet chocolate-covered cherries, caramel, and chalky roast acidity. Burnt malt hulls dominate the finish and fail to beef up the body as the acidity becomes more exaggerated. Watery and unadventurous. flemdawg (485), Naples, Florida, USA

Coffee molasses and roasted malt aroma. Carmel, and coffee dryness and malts in the taste and maybe some honey. Tasy. walleye (882), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 14, 2004 This draft brew from the brewery poured a large sized head of finely sized dark brown colored bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body was uncarbonated opaque and dark ruby red brown in color. The aroma was that of medium strength dark malts and molasses. The mouth feel was tingly yet smooth with a malty palate. The flavor contained notes of dark malts, molasses and was somewhat sweet. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 17, 2003 Thickest of the stouts on tap at my visit. No head, but a few lonely bubbles on top. Excellent chocolate cake nose, very distinctly CHOCOLATE CAKE! Rich and chewy from the first "bite". Roasty flavors at the end bring it to a somewhat dry end. Wow, it is rich and thick...yummmm......
Even better as it warmed, showing some hints of hops in the long chocolatey finish.
