Excellent chocolate cake nose, very distinctly CHOCOLATE CAKE! Rich and chewy from the first "bite". Roasty flavors at the end bring it to a somewhat dry end. Wow, it is rich and thick...yummmm......
Even better as it warmed, showing some hints of hops in the long chocolatey finish. walleye (882), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA

Nice looking brew. The growler gave it a whiff of oxidation to start off the nose with. The bulk of it is toffee, burnt malts, dark roastiness, some vague dark fruitiness somewhere in the background and a hint of coco. The taste is much the same with roastiness, sweet toffee, burnt malts approaching ashy to go along with an underscore of faint oxidation. The mix of roasty malts, toffee and seemingly some oatmeal twang creates on interesting note that closes in on mild sourness. Enjoyable product with delicious creamy mouthfeel. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 14, 2004 This draft brew from the brewery poured a large sized head of finely sized dark brown colored bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body was uncarbonated opaque and dark ruby red brown in color. The aroma was that of medium strength dark malts and molasses. The mouth feel was tingly yet smooth with a malty palate. The flavor contained notes of dark malts, molasses and was somewhat sweet. flemdawg (485), Naples, Florida, USA

Black with mocha small head but lots of lace. Strong carbonation, drinkable and concentrated flavour, above average mouthfeek. Some roast, chocolate malt. Not what you expect.
