Commercial Description:
This is the ultimate Belgian style. The very high gravity of this beer is balanced by the smoothness of its finish. Banana and Clove aromas come from the Belgian yeast strain combining with the generous dose of Belgian Candi Sugar. The Saaz hops help to give this beer a balanced bitterness with no noticeable hop aroma.

120oz bottle served in a pint glass at bar that sould have known better. Nice orange color with light carbonation. Sweet but not too sweet. Taste of belgian sugar, clove and banana. Very well balanced for a HG tripple Love it!

12oz. bottle (which I’ve had since May 2007) poured into an oversized wine glass (consumed: 2/12/08) A: Pours a light orange/copper, made cloudy from the ample amount of yeast in the bottle. A minimal bubbly white head appears with nice lacing, but quickly dissipates. S: Mmmm! Big wafts of yeasty fruits (banana and pear, mostly) coupled with cookie-like malts and some raisins are what’s happening here. The alcohol isn’t very disguised either. T/M: The tongue is immediately assaulted by a burst of sweet flavors, ranging from bananas to hints of vanilla. The alcohol is clearly evident, as is a nice bittering finish from (my guess) a decent use of hops for balance. Prickly carbonation carries the flavors throughout the mouth; this beer is just right. Not too syrupy, not too tangy or thin. D: An excellent style representation, the noticeable alcohol keeps the drinkability down somewhat, but this is a very, very nice beer. Paired beautifully with a penne carbonara dish I had prepared. Recommended!

12oz bottle, courtesy of hoppymeal. Thanks, Derek! Pours a bright, clear honey-golden color; textured white head with fine-bubbled lacing. Very generous aroma, showing bananas, cloves, spice; tons of pepper and dry cloves; the alcohol shows through only slightly; some citrus. Medium-to-full, chewy mouthfeel: following the aroma, this shows a solid presence of spice and cloves; chewy bananas and honey at the core; dense, flavorful, with a spice profile that is better tempered than the aroma suggests; a very viscous tripel. Lengthy finish, nicely dry, showing some doughiness and honey; no alcohol apparent.

Tap at HDG. Pours a light amber bright orange with some hazy and a lasting white head. Aroma is spicy phenolicy green peppercorn, green apple- light acetaldehyde, cardamon, and a typical westmalle belgian yeast character- fruity and light perfume. Doughy malty spicy, light pear and peach fruity esters and green apple. Finsihes a bit hot spicy and phenolic. Rmeinded me a bit likt the SH grand cru but a bit dirtier and not as dry.

Tap at HDG Daze. Pours a nice orange gold color. Sweet aroma with not much else. A basic simple scent of caramel malts. Taste is sweet with a little bitter back. A bit simple for me.

on tap at Daze of the Devil II at HDG. Light hazy amber in color. Aroma is yeasty with phenolics and esters as well as sweet honey and caramel malt. Taste is sweet with molasses, some tropical fruit, lightly estery and yeasty. Medium to full bodied, a bit too sweet for the style, pretty solid overall though.

Tap at HDG - hazy copper beer - aroma of apple skins, candi sugar, peaches - tastes of vanilla, honey, wildflowers, light graininess - very sweet, and lacking the complexities I expect from the style - lavender comes through a bit as it warms - if it weren’t so sweet it would be great.

Tap at HDG Daze of the Devil. Deep amber colour. Sweet and malty aroma with some banana and apricot. Flavour is quite sweet, but also lightly sweaty and tobaccoish. Herbal and lightly clovey. Fairly alcoholic with a lingering apricot/grassy finish.
