Smell is of chocolate cake, dark roasted malt, rich aged barrel aging.
Taste is of chocolate richness, dark roasted malt, and a deep roasted taste that is in need of aging to be world class.
Mouthfeel is roasty, bitter, and hitting the middle of the tongue before quickly dying out.
Drinkability...dry and in need of age. Dogfish120 (143), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

One of the best stouts I’ve had considering the mouthfeel for this stout is quite light. Excellent Silphium (2137), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 17, 2005 On tap at Dragonmead. This stout is not extremely big. That said, taken for what it is, I enjoyed it. Dark brown body, mostly opaque, with a medium-thick tan head. Big roasty aroma with coffee, dry chocolate, and a hint of molasses. Surprisingly thinnish flavor profile, toasty, with chocolate, a touch of molasses, and alcohol notes. Inky, lasting finish. Roastier and less sweet than most Imperial Stouts, in addition to the more subtle hops bill. Light relative to other Imperial Stouts, but not bad by any means. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 1, 2005 a little too light for a stout. it pours much too thin and doesnt have the full body it needs to have in order to compare with higher quality stouts Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA

As stated before I am not a huge fan of stouts when they are straight coffee. All I could get out of this was bitter black coffe aroma and taste. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Nov 21, 2004 Tap. Deep opaque black color. Dark tan head. Lots of deeply roasted grains in the aroma. Some coffee smells also. Just a little too thin for my tastes. As it warms the coffee flavors and bitterness really stand out. If this just had a little more body to it!!! Long slow hop finish is fairly pleasant. jtw (942), farmington, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2004 draft at brewery. good stout? obviously. imperial stout? not so sure. needs to be bigger to really play in the sandbox with other imperial stouts. mostly coffee, but some anise/licorice hints. needs a bit more malt and about twice the hops to make it an edgy imperial stout--good, but middle-of-the-road. Small dark tan head. Nice malty chocolate and coffe in the frong. Finishes bitter black cofee. No alcohol flavor. Lacks the bite I expect in an imperial stout.
