dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA Sep 11, 2009 Pours a dark orangish-amber with medium off-white head, decent lacing. Aroma strong of toasted malt, caramel, great hops backbone, pine, and grass. Flavor matches well and comes together very nicely on my palate, but not quite as bitter as I was expecting. Nice bitter aftertaste. hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Sep 10, 2009 (Rating #5300) Growler… Hazy, blood orange ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. Excellent retention. The bouquet boasts sweet brown sugar, medium roasted grains and piney, resiny hops. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Grainy, malty flavor up front, then the hops kick in and numb the palate with grassy, pine-needle, grapefruit rind bitterness. Bitter, dry finish. Growler courtesy of dmschefke! deyholla (506), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jul 31, 2009 Tap at the MBG Summer Festival. Poured amber with an off-white head. Aroma was hoppy with fruity and citrus undertones, particularly some orange. Flavor was nicely balanced with a hoppy yet not over powering flavor letting the malts do some work. There was an undertone of sweet oranges, kind of like mandarins. BeerBaron617 (306), Novi, Michigan, USA Jul 25, 2009 Had this at the Michigan Brewers Guild Beer Fest 09’. Another great beer from a fantastic local brewer. It poured a dark reddish amber, with small white head. The flavor was deep, with lots of malty goodness, but with also some sweetness to balance it out. Very good stuff. Cheers! swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Apr 10, 2009 On tap at Dragonmead. Best beer of my trip. Tremendous. Deep amber pourNice full aroma of PNW hops & caramel malts. Perfect balance of hops & malts. Great beer. Seemed hoppier than 50 IBU’s. Wish I could have taken the keg to NY with me hopdog (5525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 3, 2009 On tap at the Dragonmead Brew Pub. Poured a deeper amberish color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of lots of hops. Pine, citrus and earthy. I would have guessed IPA or IIPA on this. Tastes of the same hoppiness with caramel, and toasted malts. Alcohol content well hidden. FlyFishingBob (14), Clinton Township, Michigan, USA Aug 4, 2008 I had this at the Dragonmead Brewery 7-31-08. Previous reviewer said it was "transparent bright amber orange". I don’t know if there was that much variation in the batches or if he had a different beer, because this was deep deep red almost to brown. Very sweet beer with great malt flavors. Tastes of honey and maraschino cherrys. As I expect with reds, not much of a hop presence, but even Dragonmead’s IPAs are not as hoppy as I would like. I will definately get this again, but after a year of going to Dragonmead this was the first time I saw it on the menu. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 18, 2007 On tap at the 2007 GTMW: Pours a transparent bright amber orange with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of earthy toasty caramel malt with a lot of fresh piny hops. Body starts lightly sweet and caramely malty with a decent, fresh bittering and flavor hoppy balance. Smooth and fairly flavorful. A decent double red ale.
