Beer_Hawk (705), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA May 4, 2008 Bottle. Poured brown with a frothy off-white head that leaves thick lacing. Roasted malt aroma. Roasted malt flavor also with some chocolate and caramel. Sweet throughout. Medium body. (Rating from June ’07)
Magjayran (1118), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bottle from 2006, let’s see how it ages! Dark brown ale with an absolutely ENOURMOUS tan head that breaks down while leaving a cylinder of foam. Rivals Houblon Chouffe in the head department. Cool. Strong caramel, molasses, dates, and brown sugar in the aroma department. There are notes of caramel and molasses in the flavor but some of the usual sweetness has faded leaving some bitter chocolate. Still incredibly fizzy. A good bottle of a fairly old beer. hombrepalo (465), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 28, 2008 Sampled @ Hopcat’s. Lightly sweet with some caramel and brown sugar with a touch of roastiness and nuttiness. Very dark amber, almost brown, with no transparency. Small off-white head. Roasted malt with a nutty finish. Almost like a slightly sweet brown ale with a light hop finish.
notalush (2036), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Dark red beer - faintly sticky lace - sweet caramel aroma, some plum and bubblegum - a tiny bit of peat - tastes peaty and lightly bitter - a bit of dough and chocolate - a touch of cherry - blah. JoeMcPhee (3692), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jul 5, 2008 Bottle shared by notalush. Dark brown beer. Aroma is weird, some earthy/musty notes on the nose. Lightly leathery and a bit sour. Some light herbal/spiciness under a dull muted maltiness. Meh... this is not for me. polomagnifico (418), Saginaw, Michigan, USA May 19, 2008 Aroma of roasted malt caramel and sour dark fruits. Dark brownish black hue with a tan head that left good lace. Flavor is more of the same but also has an off metal flavor. Medium bodied. Not bad but kind of off.
