Commercial Description:
We think you will enjoy this beer. For our 15th Anniversary beer we decided to throw the "style guideline" books out the window and create our own style. We set out to create something that would be strong enough and complex enough to age for all future anniversaries. We think we have accomplished that with this brew. We infused the finest ingredients available to us with our relentless passion for brewing good beer and topped it off with a little bit of creativity. We combined 2-row malt with Munich malt, Caramel malt and a touch of Chocolate malt for color. From there we added Noble hops imported from Germany to give the beer its bitterness and hop aroma. We then fermented it with a Lager yeast strain at 50*F for five weeks. After that it was allowed to lager for another four months to round out the flavors. What we ended up with is a beer that weighs in at a hefty 11% ABV with 25 IBU's and a nice ruby amber color."

1 liter swing top courtesy of Dark Elf. Pours a brownish mahogany with a tan head. Smells of caramel, toffee and hops. Taste is moderately hoppy with some nice BW qualities. A very surprising beer.

KSBF 06 1 liter bottle sampled thanks to Hopdog! Pours a cloudy amber with a thin lasting head. Sticky sweet caramel aroma, with lots of subdued nice fruity esters, plums and figs with some raisin, and rum- mollasses sugary hints. Nice thick sweetness in the flavor yet not cloying- just full bodied, with caramel, toffee, light toasted malts, and nutty. Nice herbal hops for balance and good bitterness to balance all the sweet malts. This was a cool over the top beer. Huge thanks to Steve for sharing this beauty at the after party!

Thanks to hopdog for opening this at the KSBF ’06 after party... Appears a hazy, dark brown with a small, light tan head that fades slowly. Spots of lacing are left around the glass. Smell is of caramel, vanilla, wood, and lots of rich toffee that jumps out of the glass at me. Taste is of the aromas, again with plenty of rich, syrupy caramel, vanilla, and toffee taking over in the flavors. Mouthfeel is oaky, full bodied, with a noticable alcohol presence. Pretty enjoyable despite the high ABV.

From bottle, Kennett Square Brewfest after-party, 2006. Pours a slightly cloudy dark copper with a small thin film of off-white head. Aroma is thick sweet malt with minimal hoppiness. Quite syrupy with some light port notes. Flavor was malt dominated yet the bitterness comes on strong on the finish. Lots of toffee, caramel, and some alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, slightly sticky, with moderate soft carbonation.. Overall, a pretty good beer, similar in some ways to an American Barleywine. I liked this very much more than the Bourbon Barrel version.

KSBF 2006 RB after party. Thanks to hopdog. Pours a hazy golden amber with a small creamy off white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee and sweat malts. Flavor of vanilla, caramel, toffee very close to the aroma

I did enjoy this beer. Like almost nothing I’ve ever had ... or will again, alas. Earthy, almost musty aromas, with a hint of roastiness -- or is that caramel. Smooth, grassy hop aromas are very inviting. Amberish in color. Very smooth drinking and astounding given the alcohol content. Warming, but only after one finishes and realizes, "wow, I feel that now". Very smooth with a slightly lingering, almost chocolatey finish.

Bottle. Dark coppery pour. Caramel malty toffee aromas and flavors, with some hops and some notes of medium fruits. Light bitterness.

Popped the big liter and there was huge sediment down the neck... could be the CA to VA ariplane ride... poured a cloudy dark amber with big head. The initial sips were on the sweet side then it just got mellower as liter went down between two of us. nice balanced ale with hardly a hint of the abv until you are finished....
