Commercial Description:
This was an extremely hoppy Barleywine that has been aging in a Bourbon barrel for 12 months. The hops have mellowed in the barrel and have paved the way for the malt and bourbon note to take over. Intense vanilla and toffee aromas lead to a deep caramel and chocolate flavor with a touch of maple. Lightly refermented in this bottle to achieve a small amount of carbonation. Enjoy this as you would any after dinner drink. Cheers!

Bottle. Lots of booze (distinct bourbon) in the nose, but not as much as the Brandy Barrel BW version. I also smelled some molasses and oak hopelessly drowned in the whiskey. Poured a clear reddish brown color. Sweet and full bodied with a warming alcohol effect and very little carbonation. I tasted bourbon, vanilla, and subdued black cherry. Wow.

Nip, thanks aspidites! Pours clear dark brown with ruby highlights. Sweet bourbony vanilla aroma and taste wrapped around a sweet toffee and fig center. Darned tasty.

Bottle shared by Taverner, pours deep woody brown. The nose is spectacular with, well, barley wine and bourbon. The flavor is not quite as good as the bourbon takes over, but it’s still quite nice. It’s smooth on the palate as well.

Stud tasting 1.0 held at general_gaos. Thanks for putting up with us colin! Cola red pour with a small off white head. Aroma is bourbon and wood. Flavor is similar, some tootsie roll, bourbon, green wood, vanilla. Lots of barrel going on in this one. Pretty much flat finish.

Nifty 6oz. nip bottle, with a big thanks to Davecooks for this great bonus! Pours a murky, lifeless brown with only a few bubbles that disappear immediately. Aroma is a good mix of vanilla, overripe dark fruits, brown sugar, caramel, bourbon and oak. Flavor capitalizes on the aromas, with more vanilla, dark fruits, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, bourbon and oak. Fortunately, the bourbon manages to maintain a complimentary role; it’s still in a central position, but doesn’t come off too harsh or take over and still lets the other flavors flourish throughout. This is definitely a sipper, but found it to be an enjoyable nightcap with a nice blend of flavors and good complexity. Thanks again Dave!

Bottle shared by puddintane: Pours a deep mahogany with no head. Aroma, boozy fruits, sherry, plumbs, caramel. Flavor, sherry, caramel, dark fruits, some brown sugar. The oxidation wasn’t too bad, but it’s past it’s prime I think.

Nose is all bourbon. Pours a muddy brown with no head. Flavor is caramel, barley, oak, vanilla and a slightly sour apple flavor hidden behind all of the other flavors. Decent sipping flavor.

Bottle courtesy Ibrew2or3. Pours a hazy brown with a small white ring head. Aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla, and dark cherries. Taste is the same as aroma with notes of caramel and a touch of oxidation. Medium full mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and smooth alcohol. Very good
