Commercial Description:
Simply put this barley wine is the strongest beer we have ever brewed. At 14.70% alc/vol with a starting gravity of 26 plato Drakes barley wine has been big since birth. Crisp malts give this beer a burnt red color and deep rich sweetness. Placed in a brandy oak barrel since Dec. 2003 it has been aging and waiting for you to enjoy as you would any fine after dinner beverage. This is a very limited release and won't be repeated.

Bottle at the Düsseldorf Gathering. Muddy, brown body. Lightly brown head. Aroma of liquor, malt, ... After drinking the first sip I thought I needed a new appointment at the dentist because of the sweetness. Luckfully there is some fruitiness in the sweetness.

(Bottle 18 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Clear, dark, orangey brown - the head is pretty much absent. Very sweet and strong aromas - medicinal, cough syrup. Very full body with odd, salty accents. Lots of caramel and bourbon notes. Out of balance and not overly pleasant. 291206

Dusseldorf Gathering, Bottled. Mainly port aroma with several dark fruits and prune. Cloudy, orange brown color, beige head, fair lace. Salty, soy sauce, plum, raisin, port, very tough to drink. Good brew but a bit over the top. A beer should be more drinkable than this one.

Bottled. An unclear brown beer with a lazing beige head - that doesn’t last that long. The aroma has very strong woody notes combined with notes of soy sauce and stored fruits. The flavor is somewhat oxydixed with notes of soy sauce, wood, and caramel.
