Commercial Description:
Simply put this barley wine is the strongest beer we have ever brewed. At 14.70% alc/vol with a starting gravity of 26 plato Drakes barley wine has been big since birth. Crisp malts give this beer a burnt red color and deep rich sweetness. Placed in a brandy oak barrel since Dec. 2003 it has been aging and waiting for you to enjoy as you would any fine after dinner beverage. This is a very limited release and won't be repeated.

Bottled. An unclear brown beer with a lazing beige head - that doesn’t last that long. The aroma has very strong woody notes combined with notes of soy sauce and stored fruits. The flavor is somewhat oxydixed with notes of soy sauce, wood, and caramel.

(Bottle 18 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Clear, dark, orangey brown - the head is pretty much absent. Very sweet and strong aromas - medicinal, cough syrup. Very full body with odd, salty accents. Lots of caramel and bourbon notes. Out of balance and not overly pleasant. 291206

Bottled, thanks cquiroga! Hazy dark brown, creamy beige head. Oaky raisin aroma. Sweet and very malty with extrenmely full body. Thick and grainy with concentrated vinous flavours oak, vanilla and coriander. Powerful and compact. Very good!

Medium chestnut colour. The aroma hits with a massive alcohol punch, leaving only a little bit of room for malts. There is some mapley, brandyish character but this is very, very boozey and the finish is so hot I just can’t begin to appreciate anything else here.

Bottle. Clear orange brown coloured with an off white head. Sweet aroma of dried fruits, cheese, soy sauce and wood. Flavour of dried fruits, especially raisins, and fruits.
