| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 1, 2006 On tap at the brewery 5/26/06, this had a rich black color with a small foamy head. The aroma was very sweet, good chocolate and roasted malt notes. Flavor was very smooth with lots of sweet flavors of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. This was served a bit too cold, I think letting this warm would have made a big difference. Unfortunatley I got to Drake’s a bit late and was in "chug-mode". Good beer nonetheless. bindpmc (88), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 1, 2006 Draught at OBrien’s. The nose is all slightly burnt malt, coffee grounds and mocha. Frothy tan head, looks like the top of a milkshake or maybe a root beer float. I’ll concede the corrollary to chocolate milk: it tastes fairly chocolately and creamy on the downtake, that’s for sure. Finish is a little on the bitter side, but more like bitterly burnt coffee and not the good kind of bitter, as in hops. Having sampled some really great Stouts and dark Strong Ales recently, this simply does not hold up to the likes of Stone, Victory, or Port Brewing. All the same, a decent beer. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 22, 2006 On Tap at West Coast Brew Fest: Pours out a nice dark, black liquid, tannish head, small in size with great lacing. Aroma is roasty, bitter chocolate and creamy. Mouthfeel is full and round. Flavor is sweet, malty, mostly chocolate, some lactic acid also. Good beer, but Drake’s makes so much better stuff. marcus (1869), Sacramento, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 24, 2006 Bottle. Black beer with a thin cocoa colored head. Chocolate roasty aroma - lots of chocolate with just a it of sweetness. Sweet malt and chocolate flavor with some underlying roastiness and lactic. Coffee as well. Thinner body than expected makes this really easy to drink. Lactic notes more present as you continue. Would like it more if it has just a bit more body, but it’s well done. Lingering lactic/chocolate. Thanks for the bottle, Mike. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 4, 2006 Draft at brewery. Pours dark chocolate brown with slight reddish highlights when held to light and a smallish beige head. Aroma is dominated by the roasty malts and a hint of chocoate. The flavor - again roasty malts, semi sweet chocolate and a light astringent herbalness. Full body and gentle carbonation. Pretty tasty and enjoyable overall. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA
