kmweaver (2389), Sebastopol, California, USA Oct 15, 2009 Draft @ Pacific Coast Brewing. Pours a bright, clear slightly oily golden-amber color; thin, off-white head with good retention and fine-bubbled lacing. Kind of a disappointing aroma: orange hop character, oily with a touch of basic sugar. Dense, chewy, oily mouthfeel: minimal astringency; loads of sticky, dank earthy and piney bitterness; gorgeous hop character; slightly relaxed carbonation, with nice levels of acidity and just buckets of oily hops; rather viscous without being too heavy; quite nice IIPA - a heavily oily rendition that you can really sink your teeth into. The only problem being, of course, that a dry rendition would go down much better: dense orange core here. Lengthy, tongue-numbing bitterness: piney, minerals, with a lightly toasted burnt malt core. Aubrey (2773), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 3, 2009 GABF 2009, day 3: Green, chewy hop flavors tasted like I was chewing on a hop cone. Rich malts went well with the spicy, flowery hop aromas. Very tasty beer. joeneugs (282), Livermore, California, USA Aug 26, 2009 Pours a very dark amber color with an off white, almost tan head. Aroma is very strong with pine, and fruit. Taste is super thick with tropical fruit and massively bitter hops in the finish. A hop heads dream. A bit thick for me, but very strong and tasty. Papsoe (14613), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 25, 2009 On tap. Clear amber golden with an off-white and lacing head. Sweetish peachy hop aroma. Quite full-bodied, sweet caramel and fat peachy hops that leave a surprisingly discreet bitterness. Warming alcohol in the finish. 070709 yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jul 23, 2009 From tap at Stone Bistro. Pours hazy dark orange with a small white head. Grapefruity ad orange hoppy aroma. Flavour is grapefruity with a light touch of winegrapes and more solid grapefruity flavours. Smooth hoppy and light malt base flavoured finish. Nice and easy. JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Jul 2, 2009 I don’t understand why this is rated so highly. Not a very good IIPA IMO. Heavily focused on malt (caramel) and alcohol. Bitter piny hops and citrus. Lots of heat, and some grain. Really I didnt like it that much... if you want a hop bomb thats not stupidly hot, get something else. KUEric (632), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Jun 2, 2009 A very good IIPA. A little deeper in color than some can be, and a little bread-y-ier than IIPAs can be. Malts were present more than some IIPAs, but this is a west-coast hop guy. The kicker for this guy was its lingering bitter aftertaste, which I enjoyed. BeerandBlues2 (3198), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 30, 2009 Draught at Najas Place. Pours clear light brown with an average, fizzy, white head, diminishing with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, nutty, bread), heavy hop (flowers, citrus, pine), average yeast (dough, sweat) with notes of candied fruit - peach, pear, apple. Full bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a bitter-alcoholic finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness.
