jimbowood (751), Athens, Georgia, USA Jun 13, 2008 handbottled from rodger. These drakes guys know their stuff. This is one fine barleywine with a huge hop presence and a great hop finish. Me likey.
riversideAK (1757), Shoreline, Washington, USA Sep 13, 2008 Hazy brownish red with a nice beige head. Aromas of toffee, caramel, dark fruit, butterscotch, dark sweet bread, and floral/piney hops. Toffee, caramel, toast, buttered sweet bread, and a floral hoppy bitterness in the finish. Nice drinking at 10%, great balance of malt and hops in a big beer. Vac (2274), San Diego, California, USA Aug 4, 2008 On tap at Hamiltons during RBSG ’08. Pours with a deep red-brown body topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty yet hoppy with notes of caramel and some pine. Full bodied, tingly and slightly dry. beerguy101 (3547), Newark, California, USA Apr 30, 2008 Tasted at the 5th Annual (2008) Triple Rock Firkin Fest. This barley wine pours a dark gold color from the firkin. Small sized head. The aroma is fruity, caramel and sweet. A medium to full bodied Barleywine. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are citrusy and floral. Nice balance. Nice soft carbonation. There is a touch of alcohol bite at the finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol oiliness. rayOfBeer (288), El Cerrito, California, USA Apr 20, 2008 Poured at Firkin fest at Triple Rock, labeled firkinwine, amber-orange small white head little carbonation. Nose of citrusy floral hops, alcohol and sweet malt. Decent barley wine. Has a rush of piney citrusy hops upfront, good flavor not too hoppy but the sweetness rushes in with some fruity and bubblegum flavors making for an almost too sweet finish. Drinkable but not a top contender.
