Commercial Description:
Perception. According to Webster's dictionary perception is: Recognition and interpretation of sensory stimuli based chiefly on memory. Drake's Imperial Harvest Ale wiil test your perception of beer. The malt base of this beer is 95% Crisp 2-row and 5% Durst Munich malt. The brew was allowed to simmer at 200ºF overnight to caramelize the sugars and create the perception of being a darker and therefore, maltier beer. We then came to the brewery the next morning and added hops throughout the boil, ending in the addition of 100 pounds of "wet" hops that were picked the previous day, and flown overnight to the brewery. What we ended up with is a brew that weighs in at 8.5% ABV, with an insane amount of hop aroma and very little malt flavor to take away the hop dominance.

Draught sample at O’Brien’s, San Diego. Hazy reddish-orange colour. I was pretty hopped out after the Hoppiness, Pliny and Dorado, so I don’t think I was able to give this a fair tasting, but as far as hop-bombs go, it’s a pretty good one. I was glad to move on to some new styles after this one, though.

On tap@O’brien’s: Orange-amber color with a wisp (bar pour) of eggshell head. Perfumy, fruity (citrus) aroma. Light sweet start followed by a sharp grapefruit bitterness and a light, dry zest finish. Smooth, tangy palate.

Tap @ Toronado (12/19/04). A reddish brown color with a tan head. A strong pine hop aroma with some citrus. Bitter, dry and hoppy flavors. A touch of sweetness amd full bodied. Somewhat harsh at the finish as many double IPAs are.

(Draft: Wet Hop Beer Festival, O’Brien’s in San Diego, CA) Tied for first place (with Rogue Hop Heaven) in this Wet Hop Festival, at least to me! Very flavorful, malty and somewhat sweet, moderately hoppy and bitter. The nose is strongly hoppy, but malty and sweet too. Medium bodied, but with a nice full mouthfeel. Amber in color. Light tan head is kinda bubbly and has good size during the pour. Some patchy lacing.

Dark gold, chunky head. All hops in the nose. Flavor was hops, a very strange hop character emerged. Kinda strange.

The deep amber body of this brew is topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is sweet and grapefruity wtih a slight underlying pine note. Nice aroma. The flavor is sweet yet spicy and hoppy with some pine and a touch of fruit. Medium bodied, slightly dry and a little oily.

a dark accented amber color showed a solid lacing head above and spicey hop fumes...spicey, caramelly hop flavors..some bitterness, and a mild medicinal tingle.
