Maybe this was made especially for that party? Don’t know. A really hoppy aroma, this beer is not what you’d expect from a brown, except that it tells you that it’s really hoppy in the name. If all browns were this way, I’d like them a lot more. No nuttiness. Odeed (1679), Bakersfield, California, USA

Nose of hops, not the usual citrus, floral or pine, just hops, with a little caramel; Transparent brown with a medium brown head; Flavor of grapefruit and hop bitterness, then some caramel and molasses sneak into the medium body. The hop bitterness lasts to the finish. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 15, 2006 This isn’t your father’s brown ale! This is like a little hop bomb in a bottle. Sheesh. A big hoppy aroma of grapefruit rinds and a big blast for floral sweetness. Appearance is muddy brown in color with a head on the smaller side of things. Flavor is attacking with hops cranked up nice and loud, with a sweet caramel support from the malts. Talk about pushing the envelope. Brown ales will never be the same. Damn you Drake’s! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2007 Bottle courtesy of hopdog! Poured a lovely shade of hazy burnt plum/light-ish mahogany with a majestic, well-retained beige head and some tiny floaties. The nose was spot-on for the beer’s namesake... fresh pine and citrus on top of nutty and caramel sweetness... aggressive yet soft... great combination! Bitter pine graces the tip of the tongue before transitioning smoothly into a sweet middle of nutty malts, bittersweet chocolate, some darker fruit and figs... citrus rises and the pine returns for a triumphant, rather bitter finish... sweet, refreshing, and it left me wanting more! Excellent stuff! Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA

I really appreciate the chance to taste this one. 12 oz, pour was a dark brown, large tan foamy head. Nose is kind of hoppy, like a APA, if you close you eyes, but the body is very dark and very little light gets through. The taste is sweet and malty like a brown ale, but the is a very distinct hop presence that make this a very interesting brew. Thanks
