Commercial Description:
Russian Imperial Stouts were originally brewed in the early 20th century in England for export to the Imperial Court of Russia. These beers were made with a higher starting gravity and higher hopping rates to make the voyage by sea. Drake’s Imperial Stout is brewed to an original gravity of 21.5°P. by a mall bill of 91% Malted Barley, 4% Crystal Malt, 3% Roasted Barley and 2% Chocolate Malt. Chinook hops were added to balance the beer. A hearty yeast strain was used to create a beer that weighs in at a robust 8.75% Alc. by Vol. A Pint a Day Keeps Scurvy Away!

0.5l I guess flip top bottle courtesy of ogivlado who shared it withe me and heavy
Popured an opaque extremely dark brown/black body with traces of a white head. Oily, roasty nose, notes of alcohol, propolis, maybe coffee. Not the nicest IS aroma you can find. Bitter, roasty, almost completely burnt maltiness, sweet, some alcohol and coffee. The taste isn’t too heavy but it’s oily in a way. Ok but unimpressive or just possibly not my type of IS

Bottle Pours out almost black topped with a tan head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, rich malts, and some roasted coffee. Taste much as the aroma a little more of the sweetness shows up along with the roast coffee. Thanks Toby

500ml bottle:
Appearance: Pours a dark brown with a small tan head with little lace left over.
Aroma: Coffee, chocolate and dark malts
Taste: Very smooth tasting, almost creamy. Roasted malts, chocolate and coffee.
This is a very good Imperial Stout. A very smooth beer to finish off the night.

swing top bottle (500ml). -from City Beer Store, San Francisco. Deep black coloured, almost no head, roasty coffee nose. Roasted malts, coffee and chocolate with notes of dried fruits and alcohol. Oily, not so complex as I’ve expected but still very good and enjoyable IS.

Bottle - thanks Toby. Dark brown with a bubbly tan head. Aroma is rich with sweet milk chocolate and espresso. Taste is consistent with the aroma, roast, espresso, and milk chocolate. Smooth, silky, and balanced. Very nice.

31/10 0.5 l bottle courtesy of ogivlado, great thanks for sharing! It poured oil black body with no head. Typical fine IS aroma, coffee, propolis, sweet chocolate, roasty, slight alcoholic. Hops might be felt slightly. Flavor predominately coffee with caramel sweetish as a little balance. Somewhat woody and might be herbal hoppy. Full bodied of course, but not so much as some other Imperial stouts may be, still with oily palate. Long and pleasant bittersweet finish that just reflects the flavor. Fine and enjoyable stout for sure, although not the best Imperial one for sure.
