Commercial Description:
Russian Imperial Stouts were originally brewed in the early 20th century in England for export to the Imperial Court of Russia. These beers were made with a higher starting gravity and higher hopping rates to make the voyage by sea. Drake’s Imperial Stout is brewed to an original gravity of 21.5°P. by a mall bill of 91% Malted Barley, 4% Crystal Malt, 3% Roasted Barley and 2% Chocolate Malt. Chinook hops were added to balance the beer. A hearty yeast strain was used to create a beer that weighs in at a robust 8.75% Alc. by Vol. A Pint a Day Keeps Scurvy Away!

Kind of forgot that I didn’t finish this rating as I was tasting this beer. Bottle from trage. Dark hazy brown with slight tan head. Slight roast and dark chocolate, sweet malt and slight hops in the aroma. Very much same in the flavor which is like a nice sweet milk chocolate bar with a great roasty charater and dark fruit as well. Medium to full, creamy body. Very good.

Bottle 500ml, sving top @ home.
[ Trade with kmweaver ]. Clear dark black color with a average, creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate, vanilla notes. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is creamy, carbonation is soft. (210608)

Black in color with a large, light brown head with little lacing. The aroma is of coffee grounds, chocolate, dark fruits, and molasses. The flavor is of coffee, chocolate, and dark fruits with a strong alcohol backbone. The texture is creamy. Overall i’d say its a good strong stout with a very complex and aggressive flavor. THIS IS MY KINDA BEER!

Draught at the Red Room in Santa Cruz. Pours viscous dark brown/black with a small tan head. Aroma is roast malt, earthy hops, dark fruits, alcohol, syrup. Flavor the same. Very strong flavors all around, with a dark-fruits/syrupy/boozy character dominating, along with the earthy hops and roast in the background. A little rough in parts but very tasty.

Received this as an extra in a trade and it leaked it a little through the flip top so I had to drink it immediately, which isn’t too bad of a problem to have. Pours a dark brown and surprisingly it still has a nice mocha brown head that lasts for quite a while and leaves some nice lacing. Smells mostly roasty, with some coffee and cocoa going on as well. Not a very complex nose. Taste is a nice heavy roast with a coffee/cocoa backing and a sharp hop/roast bitterness in the after taste. The alcohol is pretty present in the flavor and detracts a bit from an other wise nice imperial stout. Not the best in the world but I wouldn’t turn it down if offered to me again.

Thanks to Josh & Jon for these! Viscous black pour khaki head and some spotty lace. Roast, and coffee on the nose. Velvety mouth-feel and very rich.. Bittersweet chocolate, coffee, sweet malts and hops. Dry roasty finish
