GreatLibations (1252), Sasquatcho, Arizona, USA Jun 23, 2008 A deep amber cream liquid pours with a tall creamy head that rests to a rocky creamy clump. Superb lacing. Strong malty sweet aromas with a little hay and carrot cake. Full nectar with good carbonation. Almost bourbonesque in flavor with a sweet malty mucus that pushes a briny hop creep into view. IDK, this brew is not a classic example by any means. I was so looking forward to it. You people are crazy.
bulletrain76 (531), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 19, 2008 12oz bottle. Amber with a tenacious head. What a relief that this didn’t gush like their blonde ale that I just had; doesn’t even seem to be bottle conditioned. Odd. Looks good, has a good hoppy aroma: some grapefruit, a little woody spice. Plenty of hopps in the flavor balanced by decent light malt sweetness. A little spicy. Finishes with a little more alcohol than I’d like, which leaves a soapy feeling in conjunction with the hoppy bitterness. A little too carbonated, but manages to stay pleasant enough on the tongue. All in all it’s decent, but nothing about it stands out in the field of west coast competitors. Fantomas23 (462), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 12, 2008 Bottle from Secret Santa (thx!). Opaque amber to translucent gold. Murkily delicious. Lacing the walls of the glass like stockings on a burlesque dancer. Creamy dollop of a head. Malty base with Halloween accents of caramel apples. Surely a treat and no trick. Piney hops playing yin to the malty yang. Mixing in perfect harmony like my metaphors. Crisp, dry finish leaves my palate begging for more. So more I shall have. Berserkir (25), California, USA Aug 10, 2008 Tap from a Cask. Full hop flavor and aroma. Some serious bitterness at first taste, as well as a lingering bitterness aftertaste. The aroma is very floral. Out of the cask, it is very low on carbonation, giving it a great full mouthfeel. Nik925 (90), California, USA Aug 6, 2008 More or less a well crafted west coast IPA with an english taste to the malt. Bitter is stronger than the hop flavor / a little out of balance. Presents bitter, malt then hop flavors which is out of order for a great IPA. Great carbonation and well made, just slightly over bitter for me. BMan1113VR (762), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Aug 5, 2008 Pours with a yellow tinged, large creamy head that leaves plenty of good lacing. Body is a hazy orange. Room filling aroma of nice floral hops, citrus hops (tangarine and graipefruit) aswell as lots of toffee. Big flavor for a single IPA. Taste is very malty without being sweet. Finishing a floral hop bitter. A bit on the dry side as far as mouthfeel goes, with sharp little bubbles.
