el_caballo (101), Beverly Hills, California, USA May 7, 2008 An excellent IPA, strong citrus flavors hinting at grapefruit jump out of the bottle, some pine flavors emerge as well. The carbonation is grants a very nice feel to this brew. Very enjoyable
steview (783), Oceanside, California, USA Oct 4, 2008 fresh, balanced aroma; hazy copper-yellow body, orange highlight, random streams of beading tiny bubbles, moderate lacing, fair off-white head that diminishes into rockiness; perfume, grapefruit and its rind, and the malts are there, but hard to identity--toasty; deliciously bitter, and strong, IPA. rkuhnel (1139), Eureka, California, USA Oct 3, 2008 Bottle courtesy of bhensonb. Great beer this one was. Poured a deep amber with a nice head with creamy tones in the bubbles and good lacing. Nose of citrus hops and some hard to identify spices (cinnamon?). Clear and rich mouthfeel. Flavor of caramel malts and and hops, with pine showing this time in addition to the citrus. Good long bitter finish. A good and well crafted IPA. DragonsHead (108), Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2008 Had on draft at the Freakin Frog in Las Vegas. Nice hoppy aroma with a solid malt note. Taste was a good, deep hops, not too sharp, with a malty backbone. Overall, a nice balance. SamGamgee (591), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 19, 2008 12oz bottle. Amber with a tenacious head. What a relief that this didn’t gush like their blonde ale that I just had; doesn’t even seem to be bottle conditioned. Odd. Looks good, has a good hoppy aroma: some grapefruit, a little woody spice. Plenty of hopps in the flavor balanced by decent light malt sweetness. A little spicy. Finishes with a little more alcohol than I’d like, which leaves a soapy feeling in conjunction with the hoppy bitterness. A little too carbonated, but manages to stay pleasant enough on the tongue. All in all it’s decent, but nothing about it stands out in the field of west coast competitors. Fantomas23 (462), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 12, 2008 Bottle from Secret Santa (thx!). Opaque amber to translucent gold. Murkily delicious. Lacing the walls of the glass like stockings on a burlesque dancer. Creamy dollop of a head. Malty base with Halloween accents of caramel apples. Surely a treat and no trick. Piney hops playing yin to the malty yang. Mixing in perfect harmony like my metaphors. Crisp, dry finish leaves my palate begging for more. So more I shall have.
