WeeHeavySD (1491), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Apr 19, 2008 This is really pretty hard to call an imperial Stout, its much more of a big sour ale. On Cask @ Hamilton’s 4/18/08 shared with my girlfriend Cyn, BikesandBeer, WeeObese, Darkelf, Bill and Jessica from Alesmith and a crowd unrivalved for 5pm at any bar. Poured burgundy with no head, the head came out in cherry version though. Nose is humongous, its full of blueberry, a touch of brett, and a sour tart finish. The taste is totally sick, huge blueberry fruit tartness from the brett and a little malt, this is a wonderfully sour beer also. The taste is really quite exceptional. Had a pint or two of this and it was great. The alcohol is totally and completely hidden in this beer. The 2nd best blueberry beer I’ve ever had.
jimbowood (693), Athens, Georgia, USA Jun 13, 2008 handbottled straight from the barrel in the coolest bottle I’ve ever seen by rodger. Corked without cage due to the brew’s stillness. Moderately sour. Blueberry, sour cherry, chocolate, oak, port, and cream. Reminiscent of cuvee de tomme. This beer sits on your tongue for a lonnnng time. Most complex brew I’ve tasted in awhile. Excellent! CaptainCougar (4595), Rockville, Maryland, USA Dec 22, 2007 Sampled at the second annual Bistro’s West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Fest: Nearly opaque dark oily mahogany pour has a thin, spotty-lacing light tan head. Vinous dark caramel and fruity blueberry nose has a touch of oaky port complexity. Body starts with a fairly rich dark caramel and chocolate sweetness along with plenty of tart light fruity notes toward a drier, sweet and tart oaky finish. Nicely balanced, unique and enjoyable. beerguy101 (3407), Newark, California, USA Nov 17, 2007 Tasted on tap at the 2007 Bistro West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Festival. This Imperial Stout poured a deep black color. Small sized tan foamy head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and a touch of blueberries. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. Malts are chocolate and coffee. The hops are earthy. The blueberry flavor is a touch subdued; it hides behind the chocolate and roasty malts but adds a nice sweetness to this beer. Touch of port and oak as well. There is a touch of tartness/sourness here as well. Nice balance. Interesting beery. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. IrishBoy (1981), Bakersfield, California, USA Nov 12, 2007 Draft at the Bistro’s West Coast BA Fest, 11/10/07; Nose of wine, oak, berries, and chocolate; black with a few scattered bubbles; flavor of port (what else), woodiness, blueberry, and cocoa. Very interesting stuff!
