jimbowood (751), Athens, Georgia, USA Jun 13, 2008 handbottled straight from the barrel in the coolest bottle I’ve ever seen by rodger. Corked without cage due to the brew’s stillness. Moderately sour. Blueberry, sour cherry, chocolate, oak, port, and cream. Reminiscent of cuvee de tomme. This beer sits on your tongue for a lonnnng time. Most complex brew I’ve tasted in awhile. Excellent!
bb (2236), Martinez, California, USA Aug 20, 2008 Draft. Black beer with a tan head. Aroma of wine, light blueberry, and malt. Big fruity flavor - both blueberries and wine - with slight tartness and malt backing. Medium bodied. Tart blueberries linger with rich malt. Nice. Good complexity. Bigger fruit than expected. golubj (1086), Redwood City, California, USA Aug 16, 2008 Draft at City Beer in SF. Dark brown with tan / light brown head. Aroma was wet wood, bourbon, and brett. Flavor was mostly wood mixed with twiggy light blueberry flavors with brett providing most of the finish. There was some bourbon in there also and obviously roasted malt flavor, but the brett and wood sort of took over. AgentSteve (929), SF Bay Area, California, USA Aug 15, 2008 Dark brown pour with a halo of a head. Funky chocolate and subtle blueberry fill the nose and flow into the flavor, which definitely goes more to the tart, sour influence. A bit thin in the body, but a real experience. Retorp (2156), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Cask at Hamilton’s in San Diego. Very concentrated burnt/roast malt with an intense stewed dark fruit aroma with mild lactic/tart notes. The body is a full deep black and it is basically headless. Still, uncarbonated mouthfeel, but intensely thick. The flavor is charry, ashy, burnt and bitter with cooked dark fruit notes and some lightly infected tartness. Very boozy which causes red cheeked face flushing, especially in a packed bar. It is interesting, but I can’t go as far as calling it good.
