Commercial Description:
With just enough dark malt to be black this Porter leans toward the dry side in its malt profile. The addition of a partial sour mash (not uncommon in pre-Industrial Revolution Porters) lends a subtle tartness to the bittersweet chocolate flavour that dominates.

Bottle. Smells like rich delicious espresso. Darkest mahogany brown with big lasting tan head. Lots of coffee in the taste. Very roasty malt although somewhat thin-feeling body. Hops are discernable but don’t clash with the overall impression. Perfect carbonation. Another nice one from Driftwood.

Deep brown-black beer with a thick white head. A bit of sticky tan head. Aroma is lightly fruity with a bit of sweet coffee and cocoa aroma. There is a light blackberry fruitiness as well. The flavour is a little bit watery but it’s got a nice balance of fruit and dark malts. A bit of cocoa and coffee with a soft dryish finish, it’s light but it’s pretty tasty.

Very competent porter from our rising West Coast. Pours black with fading white head. Aroma of mollasses and cocoa. Above average mouthfeel appropriately carbonated. The taste has a bit of licorice, mollasses, and cocoa and it works smooth as a porter. Very drinkable, good malting.

Bomber shared by JoeMcPhee. Pours a dark coal-black with a thin nice lasting head. Aroma is charred malts, bittersweet and dark chocolates, with some roasty and toasted malts- light fruity ester. Flavor is charred malts, with a calcium mineral slate character- dry, earthy and some nutty chocolate malts. Finishes pretty dry and more mineral.

From the rich, toffee brown head to the black, easy finish- a great beer for chugging. Not a catch in the throat with a soft choclate roundness. Just incrdiable!!

Bottle: Deep brown pour with a tan head. Dry aroma- woody cocoa, light nutty coffee (hazelnut notes). Dry flavor as well. Mild fore leads to some soft hazelnut, chocolate and a balancing yet soft roast. Nice and dry, but not standout.

Bottle shared by JoeMcPhee. This was a surprisingly good porter. Very dry, smoky, chalky, light, bitter aroma. Crispy, lettuce, chalk dry flavor is easy drinking, balanced. A bit lactic. This is a lovely beer, I wish we had more super-dry stouts and porter like this.

An almost smoky character infuses the cereal malt and chocolate aroma. Very earthy and perhaps a bit sharp and lactic. Intriguing at any rate. Opaque black ody is topped by a foamy tan head that recedes quickly to a thick, dense, fine bubbled cover with very nice lacing. Dark cocoa-like chocolate and cereal malt character dominates with an underlying biscuit malt note and slight sharpness that offers counterpoint. Strong roast especially in the aftertaste. Bitterness is notable without overshadowing. There is plenty of flavour in this one but it does tend a bit too much towards the roastiness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Quite dry and inviting. An excellent addition to the BC beer scene! Tulip glass. Bottle. Brewery Creek. Dec-08.
