JorisPPattyn (4526), Antwerpen, Belgium Jul 2, 2006 Collapsing, brownish, thick head, dense; chestnut to chocolate brown beer, opaque. Very fruity, estery and yeasty nose with rosewater, "amandine", almonds or franchipane, grape fruitdrops... Ends a bit chocolate-woody, but always very sweet. At least the taste is less sweet, but still very perfumed. Some dark malts, (sweet) chocolate, very distant almond hints. Very thick, creamy MF. As the beer is very young, I suspect this will diminish, as will the sweetness. But it is promising. I can see good future for this.
Made to the best of my knowledge at De Proef, not De Graal.
BoBoChamp (737), Gent, Belgium Jul 28, 2008 33cl, from brewfirm Druïde, easy to drink, balanced, hazy, rocky head, nice brew Jerre (1410), Waregem, Belgium Aug 12, 2007 Bottle, 33 cl. Clear ruby brown with large creamy beige head. Aroma malts, caramel. Medium body. Taste = sweet, roasted-malts, bitterness, dry at the end. Not bad, but not the top. sayravai (3187), Helsinki, Finland Jul 21, 2007 (Bottled) Clear (hazy with yeast), dark ruby brown with a medium, tanned and creamy-lacy head. Aroma of brown sugar and sweet malts, some ashiness. Some more complexity and even light port-winousness when warmer. Lightly ashy and sweet, roasted-malty flavor with tiny licorice hints and some dry bitterness in the finish. Medium-bodied, perhaps a bit thin palate (for the style) with foamy carbonation. A reasonably pleasant dubbel, but lacks the final push towards being a classic. diabel (1210), Aarschot, Belgium Nov 19, 2006 Bottled at Weekend der Belgische Bieren, Hasselt, Belgium Off-white, yellowish head - sisses away. Deep, brown body, which is slightly hazy. Quite refined aroma of wood, port, caramel and malts. Lightly bitter flavour. Lacks complexity and guts.
