GarrettB (410), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 28, 2008 It’s hard to say no to a fancified beer like this, the Blanches des Moines, complete with ornate drop cap. With a lighter wallet and a full glass I dive into the beer with relish. A semi-thick head clambers to the rim of the glass, with larger bubbles exploding into miniaturized versions. The body is very cloudy, looking like a full glass of melted butter. Dry orange rind, clove, juniper and evergreen needles lunge out and grab the nose amidst a wheaty backdrop, commanding the attention of your entire olfactory faculty. The flavor is similarly dry at first, but comes with a surprise burst of sweetness right before the aftertaste. Bright and crisp, the Blanche Des Moines delivers a lemon and wheat sparkle, before hitting the drinker with the concluding sweet banana esters. Served fresh and cold, this is a wonderful beer for the Spring season. BeerandBlues2 (2473), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 7, 2008 750 mL bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine and Liquor. Pours hazy yellow with an average, frothy, white head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (hay, straw), average hops (flowers, lemon), average yeast (horse blanket, barnyard) with notes of pear, coriander, and ginger. Light bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness. Snojerk321 (959), San Diego, California, USA Jul 22, 2008 750ml bottle. This wit bier poured with a thick white head, eliciting a spicy aroma. The mouth feel is highly carbonated and the flavor is fruity and spicy with a malty tinge.
bitbucket (1542), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jul 19, 2008 750, corked and caged. Pours hazy yellow with a lacy white head. Aroma of corriander, lemon. Cotton candy and fruit taste. Light-ish body with medium carbonation. Spicy, but otherwise kinda nothin’ finish. I’m not getting any indication of the extract of licorice root. thedm (3406), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 27, 2008 This numbered 2814 corked and caged bottled brew from Indianapolis, IN pored a glass of all foam. The head was made up of finely sized white colored mostly diminishing bubbles. Once it died down, it it left behind a softly carbonated slightly hazy yellow white colored body. The aroma was of mild coriander malts and hops. The mouth feel was tingly from start to finish. The flavor was slightly acidic with soft floral hop notes.
