bhensonb (4182), Woodland, California, USA Jul 24, 2007 50 cL bottle. Labeled as English Ale, rather than just ale. It’s got that nifty English malt aroma that just doesn’t pop up on this side of the pond. Hazy light amber color with a white head that left. Thin to medium bodied. Nearly creamy carbonation. The flavor is spicey caramel with balancing hop. Tingles the mouth. The finish is almost dry, residual malt notes, and spicy/floral hop. Really very tasty. HogcliffeLenny (162), Christchurch, Dorset, England Jul 16, 2007 Bottle 500ml. Pours a good ruby colour with large tan head. Aromas of, well, I don’t really know! It’s kind of hops in wet earth – you know, that smell you get after a rain storm on a warm day. There are hints of orange there as well. Flavours of caramel and cola, with malts. Very soapy mouthfeel that seems to intensify for a short while after sipping – too much, really. Once the soapyness subsides, there is a spicy aftertaste. I have to wonder if Prince Charles has actually tasted this ale? mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 10, 2007 [399-20070705] 500mL. Beery sweet vegetable yeast aroma with muted malt. Clear, amber brown body with a big fluffy off-white head. Malty grain bread flavour with a bit of toasted corn. Medium body is a bit watery and smooth. Fine blending but not a favourite. burpfrank (293), carpinteria, California, USA Jul 10, 2007 This had a decent head.Nice lacing.Aroma of sweet caramel and earthy malt.Had a nice orange brown color. It tasted of a sticky sweet, malt with some raisins .Finished well balanced. Not too sweet and not too bitter.Pretty good beer. BeerBlockaid (538), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Jul 8, 2007 Average sub-par session beer. Bottle and label had me in for sophisticated, but this was bland walnuts. A few fruit and hop notes, but nothing really to go, hmmm. I guess it warmed up nice though, but still...no dogs allowed nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 25, 2007 Updated: Jan 27, 2009500 mL. Cloudy, dark iced tea color with a large, lasting head. Aroma is spiced brown sugar. Flavor is an excellent balance of the same malty caramel-brown sugar and dryish yeast and the right dose of bitter herb hops. Palate is smooth, medium bodied and slightly dry, with a watery finish. Underrated. johninmelb (688), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Jun 24, 2007 Nose is gently fruity and sweet. Pours a slightly muddy amber. Flavour follows the nose, developing into honey and orange notes. Mouthfeel lets it down a bit, as it is very watery. Finish disappears almost immediately. Alright, but nothing to write home about. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Jun 20, 2007 Bottle. Soapy, vegetal aroma. Up front english hop bite transforms to a slightly doughy, dry finish. Unfortunately, the far finish becomes increasingly soapy, to the point where 2 or 3 minutes after a sip you are dying for something to clean out your mouth, which pretty much ruins an otherwise decently average beer.
